This is a Clinical Fellow position responsible for the inpatient care of patients for the Neurosciences Institute at the Cleveland Clinic London. The Clinical Fellow will also be enrolled in a funded part-time PhD training programme with Kings College London, for Data Science and AI, to equip the fellow with next-generation skills. Cleveland Clinic London is a 186-bed private hospital in central London caring for patients undergoing complex surgery in the main surgical specialties. CCL's main hospital building, situated at 33 Grosvenor Place in Central London, opened in January 2022. The hospital facility accommodates 186 inpatient beds; eight operating rooms; a full imaging suite; endoscopy and catheterisation labs; 29-bed fully staffed critical care unit in United Kingdom, acute medical admissions, day case rooms for surgery, and state-of-the-art rehabilitation facilities including a full robotics suite and multidisciplinary multi-professional staff. The Neurosciences Insitute provides a comprehensive neuroscience service including a dedicated neurosurgical theatre with interventional MRI, spinal surgery, and a 42-bedded rehabilitation ward including fully purpose-build neurorehabilitation suite and robotics for gait and upper limb function. The Clinical Fellow to primarily support these services. Job Responsibilities:
- Work as a part of the clinical fellow workforce providing inpatient care to neurosciences inpatients.
- Work collaboratively with specialist consultants and nursing professionals to ensure that patients' treatment and care needs are met.
- Be part of the rota covering a 7 day a week house coverage neurosciences team.
- Duties include:
- o Ward rounds - both alone daily and with consultants
- o Multidisciplinary and multiprofessional working with allied health professionals and entire multidisciplinary rehabilitation team
- o Epic Electronic Documentation - Ward rounds, progress notes, prescribing, discharge summaries, investigation ordering, referrals, investigation result reviewing
- o Patient and relatives' communication
- o Attendance to evaluate acute change in patients' condition
- o Detailed handover to colleagues
- Shift Pattern: 2x12 hours per week. Details of weekly rota are subject to change to accommodate need of clinical services at Cleveland Clinic London
- Taking part in clinical governance, education, training and research to continuously improve and strive for excellence:
- Participating in the regular in-house learning sessions and other educational activities as well as taking up educational responsibilities
- Adhering to the best practice guidelines, clinical audits, and governance.
- Active involvement in clinical governance meetings, including but not limited to mortality review, safety event reporting, peer review, and other relevant activities
- Complete and keep up to date with mandatory training as required by Cleveland Clinic on all aspects of professional practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- Fully registered with the GMC and current license to practice
- Current UK visa or permission to work
- MRCP, MRCS/FRCS or equivalent
- Ability to organise and prioritise clinical needs
- Evidence of the diagnostic skills, and clinical judgment.
- Competent in the perioperative management of the surgical patients including the basic assessment, investigation and management.
- Competent in routine clinical skills including venipuncture, blood cultures, arterial sampling, nasogastric tube and urethral catheters.
- The fellow will be co-recruited with Kings College London, for enrollment in a part-time PhD to be done in parallel with the clinical employment. This part-time PhD will link to the ESPRC/Kings' DRIVE-HEALTH Centre for Doctoral Training, which includes taught programmes, seminars, workshops and a research programme linked with academic supervisors and mentors.
- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- All caregivers have a personal and a professional responsibility to identify and report abuse. A patient or fellow caregiver may disclose information of being abused or suspected abuse. A caregiver may also witness abuse or simply have concerns of abuse taking place. Should any caregiver suspect abuse then it is vital that the CCL safeguarding policy and procedure is immediately implemented.
