Learning Support Teacher (part time)
We are delighted to welcome applications from outstanding, dynamic and suitably experienced individuals for the role of Learning Support Teacher (0.6-0.8) from September 2025.
We are seeking an exceptional professional to join our small department and contribute to learning support provision across the school.
The Learning Support Teacher is line-managed by the SENCO. The successful candidate will need to work across a minimum of 3 days (to include a Wednesday).
The Role
To provide individual 1:1 teaching (or small group) and support for students with SpLD/SEND, and those who need support to access the curriculum.
To monitor the progress of students taught, personal profiles and liaising with
subject staff, parents and specialists.
To screen, test and assess pupils.
Main Accountabilities
To support the school SENCO in writing profiles, running assessments and meeting with parents.
To support pupils on a one-to-one basis as appropriate, developing strategies and activities to suit individual needs in English and/or Maths.
To support pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis to supporting their developing social skills.
To provide information and support for subject staff to assist them to develop and implement appropriate teaching strategies for pupils.
To draw up learning support profiles for those pupils who have a specific learning difficulty and who are receiving individual support.
To maintain records, monitor and evaluate the progress of individual students.
To report back to parents of pupils concerning assessments, strategies for success, and future needs.
Person Specification
The following person specification indicates those areas of skills and personal characteristics, qualifications, training and experience that we are looking for.
These are likely to include:
• Post Graduate Certificate of Education (or equivalent).
• Qualified Teacher Status (desirable)
• ELSA (desirable)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with pupils, parents and colleagues.
• Discretion and diplomacy are essential.
• Good listening skills and respect for all pupils and colleagues.
• Proven ability to motivate pupils and staff.
• Previous school experience of Learning support provision will be desirable.
· Excellent working knowledge and experience of high-quality learning support and SEND provision, along with an understanding of the
demands of an independent day school environment.
· Excellent working knowledge of the curriculum, particularly for Primary Education
· A commitment to the academic progress and the welfare and safeguarding of pupils.
· Outstanding communication skills and sensitivity when handling difficult conversations and an understanding of the need for confidentiality.
· Knowledge and understanding of recent educational developments and best practice including an up-to-date knowledge of assistive technology for pupils with SEND.
· Experience of working with children who have English as a Second Language is desirable.

Hours, Terms and Conditions:
This is a part time role – 0.6-0.8 – spread across 3 or 4 days.
The school day runs from 08:30-16:00. Some after school support with clubs may be required once a week.
Lunch is provided.
Attendance at termly INSET is also required, as is attendance at the compulsory Cathedral services including Advent and Palm Sunday (falling on Sunday’s).
