Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Adult Learning Disabilities Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a specialist team supporting adults with a range of communication and swallowing needs. Based at Uxbridge Civic Centre , you will work with adults who have Learning Disabilities (LD), delivering highly specialist assessments and interventions that promote safety, independence, and improved communication outcomes.
This role is suited to Band 6 or Band 7 therapists with strong clinical expertise in Learning Disabilities, dysphagia management, and complex communication needs. You will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary framework, contributing your specialist skills to support service users across a diverse community caseload.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage and prioritise a complex caseload of adults with Learning Disabilities presenting with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
• Provide highly specialist assessment of communication and swallowing needs, using advanced clinical reasoning to form hypotheses and make sound, evidence-based clinical judgements.
• Deliver tailored intervention plans that promote functional communication and safe eating/drinking practices.
• Work closely with MDT colleagues, families, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with HCPC and RCSLT standards.
• Participate in service planning, audits, and quality improvement initiatives where appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership.
• Experience working with adults with Learning Disabilities , including complex communication needs.
• Competence in dysphagia assessment and management .
• Strong clinical reasoning skills and confidence working autonomously.
• Excellent interpersonal and multi-disciplinary team communication skills.
