Speech and Language Therapy
PSL Recruitment is currently working with a leading NHS Hospital to recruit an experienced Band 6 / 7 Adult Speech and Language Therapist for an ongoing locum assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established acute Speech and Language Therapy team, providing specialist assessment and treatment for adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders across a busy inpatient service.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload across acute medical and surgical wards, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and support safe discharge planning.
•Assess, diagnose and manage adults presenting with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders.
•Deliver evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
•Manage a varied acute inpatient caseload across medical, surgical and specialist wards.
•Work collaboratively with Consultants, Nurses, Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
•Provide specialist advice and education to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
•Maintain accurate clinical records and produce high-quality reports and discharge recommendations.
•Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to discharge planning.
•Supervise junior colleagues, assistants and Speech and Language Therapy students where appropriate.
•Support service development, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
•Maintain professional standards in accordance with HCPC, RCSLT and NHS guidelines. Essential Requirements:
•Degree or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy.
•Current HCPC Registration.
•Previous NHS experience working within an adult acute hospital setting.
•Experience assessing and managing patients with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders.
•Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
•Strong communication and multidisciplinary team working abilities.
•Ability to work independently and effectively manage a busy clinical caseload. Desirable Experience:
Experience in one or more of the following clinical areas would be advantageous:
•Acute Medicine
•Stroke
•Critical Care / ICU
•General Surgery
•Oncology
•Care of the Elderly
•Neurology
•Videofluoroscopy (VFSS)
