Senior Public Affairs Advisor

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Public Affairs Advisor (Grade 12) to join our Communications and External Affairs team. This high-profile role is central to strengthening Elexon’s relationships with government, parliamentarians, political stakeholders and industry influencers, ensuring we are recognised as a trusted and influential voice within the energy sector.

You’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering Elexon’s public affairs strategy , providing political insight and helping senior leaders navigate emerging opportunities and risks. Working closely with policy, strategy and communications colleagues, you’ll translate complex energy market issues into clear and compelling messages that support Elexon’s strategic priorities and Great Britain’s transition to Net Zero.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and deliver a proactive public affairs strategy aligned with Elexon’s corporate objectives.

• Build Elexon’s visibility and influence with government, parliamentarians, political advisers, regulators and industry bodies.

• Develop trusted relationships with MPs, Peers, ministers, special advisers, select committees and government departments.

• Lead engagement plans for ministerial meetings, parliamentary events, roundtables and stakeholder visits.

• Prepare high-quality briefings, correspondence, speaking notes and engagement plans for senior leaders and subject matter experts.

• Monitor the political and policy environment, identifying emerging risks and opportunities for Elexon.

• Produce horizon-scanning reports, stakeholder insight and strategic recommendations.

• Develop stakeholder maps and influence strategies for priority audiences.

• Shape public affairs campaigns and thought leadership initiatives that strengthen Elexon’s reputation as an independent market expert.

• Define and monitor public affairs objectives and KPIs, using evidence and feedback to continuously improve our approach.

What you’ll bring:

• Significant experience in public affairs, government relations, policy engagement or stakeholder affairs.

• A strong understanding of UK political institutions and decision-making processes.

• Experience working with ministers, parliamentarians, political advisers or government departments.

• A proven ability to influence policy discussions and regulatory debates.

• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience building trusted relationships at a senior level.

• Strong political awareness and the ability to provide clear, strategic advice to senior leaders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting briefings, correspondence and strategic documents.

• The ability to translate complex technical and policy issues into accessible, compelling messages.

• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at pace.

• A collaborative approach, with the confidence to work across communications, policy, strategy and operational teams.

• Experience in the energy, utilities, infrastructure or another regulated sector would be an advantage.

• Knowledge of UK energy policy, Net Zero, flexibility markets, digitalisation or electricity market reform would also be beneficial.
