Caretaker - Orpington
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and dedicated Caretaker to join a primary school in Orpington, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised school environment and enjoys being part of a school community.
The school has a welcoming and inclusive ethos, prioritising the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff. Senior leadership provides support and guidance, ensuring that caretaking staff are valued and fully integrated into the school team. The Caretaker plays a key role in ensuring the school environment is maintained to the highest standards, supporting the smooth running of the school on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the school site is safe, clean, and well-maintained at all times
Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and minor improvements
Monitor and manage heating, lighting, and other building systems
Supervise cleaning staff and ensure cleaning standards are maintained
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, fire safety, and risk assessments
Lock and unlock buildings and manage security of the site
Support the set-up and take-down of school events and activities
Maintain equipment and report major maintenance issues to senior leadership
Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and external service providers as needed
Assist with general portering tasks, deliveries, and site organisation
Ensure the school site is safe for pupils, staff, and visitors at all times
Maintain records relating to site management, health and safety checks
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or a similar role
Be proactive, reliable, and able to work independently
Demonstrate strong organisational and problem-solving skills
Be physically capable of performing the duties of the role
Show attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards
Be friendly, approachable, and able to work as part of a team
Understand and follow health and safety regulations
