Location: Waltham Forest, East/Outer London
School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Fixed-Term
Start Date: January Start
An ambitious, culturally vibrant secondary school and Sixth Form in the East London Borough of Waltham Forest is seeking an articulate, creative, and dynamic Teacher of Music to join their flourishing Performing Arts & Music faculty. Set in a borough celebrated for its rich creative heritage, vibrant local arts scene, and musical diversity, this post offers an exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic Music specialist, whether an experienced practitioner eager to lead A-Level Music and Music Technology or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT), to foster musical literacy, performance confidence, and composition skills across a diverse student body.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Music, you will transform performance, composition, musicology, and sound production into engaging, high-rigor learning experiences. Joining a highly collaborative and expressive department, you will deliver compelling lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Music / NCFE / BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Music / BTEC Level 3 Music Technology), equipping young musicians with the practical technique, theoretical depth, and creative versatility needed for higher education and creative industry pathways.
Environment: A modern Outer London secondary campus featuring dedicated acoustic music suites, ensemble rehearsal rooms, MIDI technology labs (e.g., Logic Pro, Sibelius), recording studios, and a fully equipped performance auditorium
Culture: A supportive, expressive department committed to practical music-making, diverse musical genres, collaborative ensemble work, and active engagement with East London’s creative partnerships
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver academically rich, practical Music lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 covering instrumental performance, music theory, composition, music analysis, and production technology.
Prepare GCSE, A-Level, and vocational candidates thoroughly for practical recitals, composition portfolios, and written listening examinations through structured technique workshops, 1-to-1 tutorial guidance, and data-driven progress tracking.
Foster an inclusive, creative classroom culture where musical experimentation, ensemble collaboration, and diverse global musical traditions are celebrated.
Track, evaluate, and monitor student progress systematically, tailoring instruction to stretch high-aspiring musicians preparing for conservatoire/university pathways while scaffolding core skills for developing learners.
Direct and lead extra-curricular musical ensembles, including choirs, bands, orchestras, and production bands, while organizing termly concerts, showcase evenings, and community music projects.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Music, Music Performance, Composition, Music Technology, or a closely related discipline.
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Music instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5/A-Level Music teaching capability is highly desirable).
Practical proficiency in keyboard/piano and/or another primary instrument, with solid working knowledge of music software (e.g., Logic Pro, GarageBand, Sibelius) and national examination board specifications (e.g., Edexcel, AQA, OCR, Pearson BTEC).
Outstanding musical presence, strong organizational skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for live performance, composition, and music education.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Key Stage Music Coordination, Ensembles Director, or Music Technology Lead.
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured mentoring pathways, practice room access, and staff health and wellbeing amenities.
How to Apply
If you are an ambitious Music specialist ready to inspire the next generation of performers, composers, and sound producers at a dynamic secondary school in Waltham Forest, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application and CV as soon as possible for consideration.
