Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator

English Heritage
Blackheath, Greater London

Heritage is for everybody, and we are here for heritage.

Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better. Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings. That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.

We are looking for a Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator to join the London Operations team.

The role is part time 0.6FTE over three days per week and on a fixed term basis for 12 months.

The Benefits

- Salary from £27,876 p.a. pro rata depending on skills, experience and location

- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, pro rata, rising to 28 days after 3 years

- Matched pension contributions up to 10%

- The opportunity to progress your career within the heritage sector

- Apprenticeship opportunities

- Subscriptions to professional bodies

- Free access to all English Heritage sites for you and up to six friends and family members

- Enhanced maternity, paternity or shared parental leave

- Options to buy additional leave

- An inclusive working atmosphere everybody is supported from all backgrounds, religions and with different needs

- Opportunities to go to some of our great live music and history events

This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about heritage, community engagement, and working with volunteers, to support the London Operations team to facilitate access to and activate London's free-to-enter sites, guided tour sites and statues & monuments. The role offers the chance to gain hands-on experience in volunteer management, and be part of a team that brings history and art to life for diverse audiences.

As Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator, you will support our mission by fostering strong connections between sites and their local communities. You will play a key role in the operational management of Ranger's House and all the free-to-enter, statues & monuments and hidden gem sites including H&S and will be responsible for the management of formalised partnerships (such as Local Management Agreements). You will co-ordinate activity at free-to-enter sites, statues & monuments and hidden gems, and sites managed by third parties in your region and act as a first point of contact for these sites. A key focus will be on ensuring that these sites are well cared, well presented and safe by managing programmes of site checks and compliance activity and cyclical tasks. You will work closely with local partners by proactively developing strong working relationships, reviewing contracted relationships on an annual basis and ensuring the sites in your area thrive.

To be considered as Volunteer & Engagement Coordinator, you'll need:

- Experience working in a customer focussed environment, providing high levels of service.

- Experience managing internal and external stakeholders

- Experience managing or working closely with volunteers or community groups

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- An understanding of the principles of good Health & Safety management.
