Wayman Education is working with an Independent Secondary School in Bexley to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant. The school is looking for a caring and reliable individual who can provide effective classroom support and help pupils develop confidence and independence in their learning.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of teachers and support staff and will have the opportunity to work with pupils across a range of abilities. The Role
The Teaching Assistant will work closely with classroom teachers to provide additional support to pupils throughout the school day.
The role will involve assisting teachers with classroom activities, helping pupils understand instructions and providing additional guidance when completing learning tasks. The successful candidate may work with individual pupils or small groups depending on the needs of the department.
The Teaching Assistant will support pupils in developing their confidence, organisation and independent learning skills. They will encourage positive participation in lessons and help pupils overcome barriers that may affect their progress.
The role may involve supporting pupils with additional learning needs, including SEND, where appropriate. The successful candidate will follow individual support strategies and work closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils receive consistent assistance.
The Teaching Assistant will also help prepare classroom resources and learning materials, maintain an organised classroom environment and provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil engagement and progress.
Outside of lessons, the successful candidate may support pupils during break and lunch periods, school activities, trips and other events. They will contribute to the wider pastoral life of the school and promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school, education or youth setting. Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant would be advantageous.
The successful applicant should be patient, approachable and confident when working with pupils of different abilities. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive professional relationships are essential.
Experience supporting pupils with SEND, behavioural needs or additional learning requirements would be beneficial. The school is looking for someone who can encourage pupils while maintaining clear expectations and appropriate professional boundaries.
A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing is essential, alongside the ability to work effectively as part of a wider teaching and support team.
