Building Regulations Principal Designer Location: London (hybrid, 2 to 3 days in the office) Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 per annum Type: Permanent, full time The Opportunity A well established, multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy is expanding its Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) team in London. The existing team of four spans Director, Associate and Advisor levels, giving you the chance to join a supportive, experienced group with clear routes for progression. Working alongside architects, engineers, surveyors and specialist consultants, you will act as the BRPD on a diverse range of projects, including Higher Risk Buildings, complex refurbishments, new developments and major public sector schemes. This is a client facing role offering genuine responsibility, technical variety and the chance to influence how Building Safety Act compliance is delivered on nationally significant projects. Key Responsibilities Lead BRPD commissions from appointment through to project completion Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to demonstrate Building Regulations compliance throughout the design process Manage compliance strategies in line with the Building Safety Act 2022 Coordinate technical reviews with in-house Architecture, Building Surveying, Structural Engineering and Building Services teams Produce, review and maintain Building Regulations Compliance Records and project documentation Support clients with competence declarations and Building Safety Act requirements Prepare Conformance Statements and Gateway documentation where required Liaise with clients, Principal Contractors, Building Control Approvers and wider stakeholders Establish inspection, monitoring and information management strategies for the construction phase, and undertake periodic site inspections Monitor design changes and assess their impact on compliance Manage project information within Common Data Environments Manage programmes and budgets, reporting to the Director of Health & Safety About You A background in Building Control, Building Surveying, Clerk of Works or a similar technical discipline A sound technical understanding of the Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022 Experience reviewing technical design information across multiple disciplines A strong understanding of construction detailing and compliance Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills The ability to manage multiple projects at once while maintaining high technical standards Commercial awareness, with experience of managing programmes and budgets Security Vetting Some projects are subject to security vetting. Clearance can be obtained after appointment, but candidates must be able to meet the requirements. Work on defence projects requires candidates to have been born in the UK or to have resided in the UK for 5 years.
