Deputy Editor – Engineering Titles
Hybrid: Dartford and/or Herne Hill, 3 days in the office
Salary: £29,000, depending on experience and company benefits
Contract: Permanent, full-time
At Mark Allen, we create specialist content, events, data and insight for professional communities across sectors that matter.
As Deputy Editor , you’ll work across a portfolio of established engineering titles, producing high-quality journalism while supporting our editors and helping develop new ideas across print, digital, video and commercial content.
This is a varied role for an experienced journalist looking to broaden their editorial skills and play an important part in shaping the output of Eureka, Manufacturing Management, MADE in Ireland and Machinery .
What you’ll be doing
Working closely with our engineering editors, you’ll contribute across all aspects of editorial delivery, including:
Writing and producing news, features and other content for both print and digital platforms
Creating and contributing to video and commercial content
Attending and reporting from industry events in the UK and overseas
Deputising for editors when required
Supporting the day-to-day management of websites and newsletters
Developing new editorial ideas and identifying opportunities to strengthen our content
Proofreading, copy editing and maintaining high editorial standards
Working closely with colleagues across the business and building relationships with external contacts to produce the best possible content
What we’re looking for
You’ll already have strong editorial skills and be comfortable working across different formats, audiences and titles.
We’re particularly interested in someone with:
Strong news and feature-writing skills
Excellent proof-reading and copy-editing ability
The confidence to manage competing deadlines across several publications
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective internal and external relationships
Curiosity and the ability to spot and develop interesting content ideas
The flexibility to travel within the UK and overseas when required
Experience using editorial CMS platforms and Adobe InDesign would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything about every engineering market we cover. What matters most is strong editorial judgement, an interest in specialist journalism and the ability to quickly understand the industries and audiences you’re writing for.
If you do not meet every requirement but bring transferable skills, sound judgement and fresh thinking, we encourage you to apply.
