Assistant Engineering Manager (Hiring Immediately)
Job Summary**
As an Assistant Engineering Manager at Arriva London North Limited, you will support the Engineering Manager in overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of our bus fleet, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with all relevant standards. Job Responsibilities*** Assist the Engineering Manager in planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the engineering department.* Supervise and motivate a team of technicians and mechanics, ensuring high standards of workmanship and productivity.
* Contribute to the scheduling and allocation of maintenance tasks, including preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and defect rectification.
* Monitor vehicle performance and identify areas for improvement in reliability and efficiency.
* Ensure adherence to all company safety procedures, industry regulations, and environmental standards.
* Assist in managing workshop resources, including tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory.
* Support the implementation of new engineering technologies and best practices.
* Participate in fault diagnosis and problem-solving for complex vehicle issues.
* Deputize for the Engineering Manager in their absence, taking on full responsibility for departmental operations.
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, vehicle history, and compliance documentation.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the engineering team. Job Qualifications*** Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a vehicle engineering or maintenance environment, preferably in the bus or heavy vehicle sector.
* Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3/4, HNC/HND, Degree) in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Strong understanding of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures, particularly for commercial vehicles.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team.
* Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to vehicle maintenance.
* Proficiency in using maintenance management systems and standard office software.
* Full UK driving license, preferably with PCV entitlement.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
