Communications Manager

National Physical Laboratory
Teddington, Greater London
  • About the Role

  • Our world-leading Time & Frequency department are seeking a Communications Manager with experience in leading internal communications.

You will be joining our team at an exciting time - we maintain the UK’s National Time Scale, UTC (NPL), and are currently developing a new resilient Time Scale facility that will underpin UK Digital Infrastructure. This will address the risks associated with our dependency on global navigation satellite systems (such as GPS) that are vulnerable to both natural and intentional interference.

You’ll partner with Specialists in physical and cybersecurity to design and implement a suite of communications to support behavioural change; to time, quality, and cost.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Strategic communication plans based on outputs from change impact assessments
    • Curate branded templates for programme communications and guidance
    • Partnering with Internal Comms to ensure alignment with strategy, branding and style
    • Working strategically with Programme Leadership Team (PLT) to agree / document key messages for Internal Comms
    • Analyses of stakeholder engagement with identification of potential for improvement
  • About You

  • Essential:

    • Experience delivering Communications within complex programmes to support transformational behavioural change
    • Translating priorities into meaningful, cohesive communications plans
    • Building and managing Change Networks to support complex behavioural change
    • Strong stakeholder analysis, management and engagement skills
    • A degree (or equivalent experience / professional qualifications) in Business / Organisational Change Management, or strategic communications management

    Highly-desirable:

    • Recent experience within a business change consultancy
    • Experience utilising Communications to implement security-related behavioural change
    • Exposure to a variety of business change methodologies (such as ADKAR, McKinsey 7S model, Kotter’s, Kubler-Ross, etc.)

We actively recruit citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in specific departments means that nationality, residency and security requirements can be more tightly defined than others. You will be asked about this throughout the recruitment process. To work at NPL, you will need to obtain BPSS security clearance.

However, to work in this role in the Time & Frequency department, you will need to have an SC clearance with no restrictions, or you must have the ability to obtain an SC clearance.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
