Pastoral Manager – Secondary School – Hammersmith and Fulham, London
Location: Hammersmith and Fulham, London
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
School Information
A well-established secondary school in Hammersmith and Fulham is looking to recruit an experienced and approachable Pastoral Manager to strengthen its student support provision. The school is committed to maintaining high standards of behaviour, attendance and personal development while ensuring that pupils receive the guidance needed to succeed both academically and socially.
The successful candidate will work alongside heads of year, senior leaders, teaching staff and safeguarding colleagues to support pupils throughout their secondary education. The school values a proactive approach to pastoral care, with a strong emphasis on positive relationships, early intervention and consistent expectations.
This opportunity would suit someone with experience in pastoral leadership, behaviour support or student welfare who is confident supporting young people through a range of challenges.
The Role
The Pastoral Manager will oversee the day-to-day pastoral support of an allocated year group or designated cohort of pupils. The postholder will help maintain high standards of behaviour, promote good attendance and ensure that concerns affecting pupils' engagement with school are addressed appropriately.
Responsibilities will include monitoring behaviour incidents, following up on attendance concerns and working with pupils to resolve issues that may affect their learning. The successful candidate will conduct meetings with pupils and parents, record agreed actions and coordinate appropriate interventions where additional support is required.
The role will involve working closely with teachers to address repeated behaviour concerns, improve classroom engagement and ensure that school expectations are reinforced consistently. The Pastoral Manager will support the implementation of behaviour policies and contribute to reintegration arrangements for pupils returning to lessons following suspensions or other periods away from normal classroom learning.
Safeguarding and student wellbeing will be central to the position. The postholder will recognise concerns, record information accurately and refer matters to the appropriate safeguarding staff in accordance with school procedures. They will also liaise with relevant external professionals where required and help ensure that pupils receive suitable support.
Additional duties may include coordinating year-group assemblies, supporting transition arrangements, monitoring punctuality and contributing to wider initiatives focused on personal development and positive behaviour.
Requirements
Applicants should have experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a pastoral, behaviour support, youth work or educational setting. Previous responsibility for a year group or team would be advantageous.
Candidates must possess strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to manage difficult conversations and maintain professional boundaries. The ability to analyse behaviour and attendance information, maintain accurate records and coordinate appropriate interventions is essential.
A sound understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and student wellbeing is required. The successful candidate will be calm under pressure, organised and committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
What the School Offers
The school offers a rewarding pastoral position with opportunities to contribute to whole-school behaviour and wellbeing initiatives. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a positive difference to pupils' experiences and outcomes.
Application
If you have the experience and commitment to support pupils' behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, please send your CV for consideration.
