An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse on Toni and Guy Ward. The ward is a 15 bedded general paediatric ward. We care for children with a variety of conditions, including Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Disease, Diabetes, Asthma and a shared care centre for Oncology patients.

You must be a Registered Children’s Nurse with excellent clinical skills, self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed to providing high standards of care for all our paediatric patients, their families and carers.  The ability to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You should have time-management and clinical organisational skills as you will need to manage a busy Children’s Ward.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining standards and quality in the day-to-day management of the unit. This role will enable you to gain and demonstrate skills in leadership and people management within the clinical environment. You will support and develop junior staff by being a mentor and role model.

Main duties of the job

• Ensure family-centred care is promoted on our ward and children and young people are treated with dignity and respect.
• Act with professionalism and integrity at all times; being a role-model, providing direction and motivation to colleagues and students.
• Provide holistic care to children, young people and their families, ensuring everyone has equal opportunities.
• Demonstrate honesty and learn from errors to support the creation of a no-blame culture where people feel able to share and learn from experiences together.
• To work as part of a team demonstrating effective communication and working collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the department.
• To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student nurses.
• To be a safe and effective practitioner, able to provide patients and families with a high standard of nursing care.
• To deputise for the ward manager and hold some management responsibilities.
