Alongside its academic curriculum, the school places considerable importance on personal development, positive relationships and emotional wellbeing. The successful Safeguarding Lead will play a central role in maintaining these standards.

The Role

The Safeguarding Lead will coordinate safeguarding procedures and provide guidance to staff across the school.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns.

  • Coordinating day-to-day safeguarding procedures.

  • Ensuring concerns are recorded accurately.

  • Maintaining confidential safeguarding records.

  • Monitoring referrals and follow-up actions.

  • Providing advice and guidance to staff.

  • Supporting safeguarding meetings.

  • Liaising with external agencies where appropriate.

  • Working closely with pastoral and welfare colleagues.

  • Monitoring emerging concerns.

  • Supporting safeguarding training.

  • Contributing to policy reviews.

  • Maintaining safeguarding documentation.

  • Supporting appropriate communication with families.

  • Promoting safeguarding awareness.

  • Ensuring concerns are escalated appropriately.

Working With Pupils

The successful candidate may work directly with pupils who raise concerns or require additional support.

This could involve:

  • Listening carefully to pupils.

  • Recording information accurately.

  • Working with teachers and pastoral staff.

  • Supporting appropriate interventions.

  • Ensuring pupils know how to access support.

  • Monitoring agreed actions.

  • Contributing to wellbeing initiatives.

The Safeguarding Lead must be approachable while maintaining professional boundaries.

Staff Guidance

The successful candidate will support staff in understanding their safeguarding responsibilities.

This may involve providing guidance when concerns arise, contributing to training and helping colleagues understand the correct reporting and recording procedures.

The successful candidate will need to communicate clearly and confidently with staff at all levels.

External Agencies

Where appropriate, the role will involve communication with external professionals and agencies.

You will be responsible for ensuring that relevant information is shared appropriately and that actions and outcomes are recorded accurately.

Strong organisational skills will be essential.

Person Specification

The school is looking for someone with:

  • Significant safeguarding or child protection experience.

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong organisational abilities.

  • Excellent record-keeping skills.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Confidence advising colleagues.

  • The ability to communicate sensitively with pupils and families.

  • Strong professional judgement.

  • A calm and consistent approach.

  • Experience working with external agencies.

  • A genuine commitment to pupil safety and wellbeing.

Previous experience as a DSL or Deputy DSL would be advantageous.

Safeguarding Culture

The successful candidate will help ensure that safeguarding remains a shared responsibility across the school.

You will work with teachers, support staff, senior leaders and families to ensure that concerns are dealt with appropriately.
