Senior Project Manager (Construction) - Water Treatment

Randstad are recruiting for a Senior Project Manager (Construction) to oversee a large scale Water Treatment Projects across North London. This is a SITE BASED role (5 days a week on site in North London).

This is a freelance role with approximately 12-18 months duration.

Payment type is Outside IR35 (subject to candidate IR35 Assessment)

ONLY CANDIDATES WITH TIER 1 CONSTRUCTION / WATER / HEAVY CIVILS EXPERIENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED (ENGINEERING DEGREE / HNC REQUIRED)

Previous experience working on Thames Water projects highly advantageous

Our client is a reputable main contractor highly regarded within the water industry with significant work in the pipeline.

Scope of works includes: Heavy Civils / RC / Drainage / Interface with other disciplines /Microtunnelling

The role:

As a key leader within our Delivery team, you'll report directly to the Head of Operations and work closely with our Contracts Manager for Water. You'll be responsible for the overall success of the Water/Wastewater Portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

• Key Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery & Strategy: Drive the end-to-end delivery of complex water treatment infrastructure works, acting as the primary engineering lead to ensure capital projects move seamlessly from detailed design through construction to final commissioning.

  • Complex Engineering Oversight: Apply strong technical engineering discipline to resolve constructability challenges, review temporary works, approve method statements, and manage technical queries across civil, structural, and MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) disciplines.

  • Commercial & Contractual Control: Lead project programming, cost control, and forecasting under NEC4 contract frameworks. Proactively identify variations, manage compensation events, and ensure delivery remains aligned with strict client budgets and milestones.

  • Subcontractor & Supply Chain Leadership: Supervise specialist water-industry subcontractors and supply chains, setting technical quality targets and monitoring performance to ensure zero-defect handovers.

  • Health, Safety, & Environmental Governance: Champion strict safety leadership and environmental protection protocols on major, high-hazard process sites-ensuring full compliance with water authority standards and statutory regulations.

  • Client & Key Stakeholder Interface: Serve as the senior operational liaison for the water utility client, regulatory bodies, and internal executive teams, providing transparent progress reporting against key performance indicators (KPIs).

  Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (Chartered Engineer status preferred).

  • Experience: Track record operating at a Senior PM or Project Director level on major water sector capital projects (preferably large-scale Water Treatment Works / WTW or process plants).

  • Technical & Contractual Mastery: Deep expertise in NEC4 framework management, MEICA integration, temporary works coordination, and complex process engineering interfaces.

  • Certifications: SMSTS, CSCS Senior Manager, and relevant health and safety accreditations (e.g., NEBOSH).
