Employee Relations (ER) Business Partner
Job Description
Role Purpose
The Employee Relations Business Partner is responsible for leading and managing complex employee relations activity across Lomond’s portfolio of brands.
Operating within a fast-paced, private equity backed property group, this role will act as the organisation’s subject matter expert in employee relations, ensuring that all people matters are managed consistently, fairly and in line with UK employment legislation.
Lomond operates across multiple brands nationwide and continues to scale through an ambitious acquisition strategy. As such, this role will play a critical part in ensuring consistency of approach, risk management and best practice across a diverse and growing workforce.
The ER Business Partner will work closely with HR Business Partners, People Operations and business leaders to support the resolution of complex cases, build management capability and embed a high-performance, accountable culture.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations Expertise
- Act as the lead subject matter expert on all employee relations matters.
- Manage complex and high-risk cases including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence and whistleblowing.
- Provide clear, commercially focused advice to stakeholders while ensuring legal compliance.
- Ensure consistent and fair application of policies across all brands and regions.
Case Management & Risk Mitigation
- Lead end-to-end management of complex ER cases.
- Identify and mitigate organisational risk in relation to employee relations issues.
- Support the business in managing sensitive and high-impact people matters.
- Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping in line with legal requirements.
Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with senior leaders and HR Business Partners to provide expert ER guidance.
- Coach and support managers to improve confidence and capability in handling employee relations issues.
- Influence stakeholders to take a proactive and consistent approach to people management.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Integration
- Provide ER support during acquisitions and organisational integration.
- Support employee transfers under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment), including consultation processes where required.
- Ensure consistent handling of ER matters across newly acquired businesses.
Policy, Process & Governance
- Support the development and continuous improvement of HR policies and ER frameworks.
- Ensure policies are applied consistently across all brands.
- Identify opportunities to improve ER processes and reduce organisational risk.
Culture & Capability
- Support the development of a high-performance culture across Lomond.
- Promote a culture of accountability, fairness and consistency.
- Encourage open, constructive feedback and proactive people management.
Data, Insight & Continuous Improvement
- Analyse ER trends across the business (e.g. absence, disciplinaries, grievances).
- Provide insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Use data to identify root causes and drive improvements in people management practices.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Proven experience in a specialist Employee Relations or HR Business Partner role with strong ER focus
- Extensive experience managing complex employee relations cases
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, including TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment)
- Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-site or multi-brand environment
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Ability to balance commercial priorities with legal and people considerations
Desirable
- Experience working in a private equity backed or high-growth organisation
- Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions
- Experience within property, retail or similar multi-site industries
