CourtofProtectionBackground:

The Court of Protection team acts as professional deputy for vulnerable individuals who lack mental capacity to manage their finances. The role of a deputy is similar to that of a trustee. They deal with all aspects of Court of Protection work relating to property and finances including preparing applications to the court, obtaining mental capacity assessments and building strong relationships with vulnerable clients.

The director of the Court of Protection finance team, is a member of the approved panel of professional deputies managed by the Office of the Public Guardian. The OPG refer a wide range of clients to us, many with complex lives and affairs. This is an unusual area of the law in that the deputy carries a lot of responsibility when making financial decisions on behalf of our clients.

As a Paralegal, you will assist with liaising with clients and professionals, preparing court applications, handling financial administration and attending court hearings and client visits. Main Responsibilities of the Role:

• ReportdirectlytotheDepartmentDirector.
• AssistsolicitorsandfeeearnerswithCourtofProtectionmattersfrominceptionto conclusion.
• PrepareanddraftCourtapplications,witnessstatements,correspondence,and supporting documents under supervision.
• Liaisewithclients,familymembers,deputies,theOfficeofthePublicGuardian, healthcareprofessionals,and otherthirdparties.
• Reviewmedicalrecords,mentalcapacityassessments,financialinformation,andother relevant evidencce.
• Conductlegalresearch
• Maintainaccuratefilerecordsandensurecompliancewithcourtdeadlines,regulatory requirements,andinternal procedures.
• Recordtimeaccuratelyandsupporttheteaminachievingdepartmentalobjectives.
• Deliverexcellentclientcarewithprofessionalism,empathy,andsensitivity.
• Implementinganyrecommendationsmadebyyoursupervisorfollowingmonthlyfile reviewsensuringthattheseare dealtwithpromptly

Experienceandqualifications:

Essential:

• A minimum of 18 months ' relevant legal experience is required, together with a genuine interest in Court of Protection work.
• Strongorganisationalskillswiththeabilitytomanagecompetingpriorities and deadlines.
• Excellentwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills.
• Strongattentiontodetailandanalyticalability.
• Professionalandproactiveapproachtowork.
• Abilitytoworkeffectivelybothindependentlyandaspartofateam.
• Excellentclientcareskillsandexperienceworkingwithvulnerableclientsandtheirfamilies.
• CompetentITskills,includingMicrosoftOfficeapplicationsandcasemanagementsystems.

Desirable:

• AstrongacademicbackgroundwithaLawDegreeorequivalentlegalqualification.
• Previous experience within a Court of Protection, Private Client, Community Care, Personal Injury, or Litigation department.
• KnowledgeoftheCourtofProtectionRules,andOfficeofthePublicGuardianprocedures.
