About Exactmer
Exactmer is a rapidly growing life sciences company, with the mission to manufacture exact polymeric pharmaceuticals, enabling advanced therapies to be provided to all patients in need. Using our patented platform technology Nanostar Sieving, we create exquisite synthetic and biological polymers, including oligonucleotides, mono-disperse polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and ADC linkers.
London-based, we are entering a rapid phase of growth and are seeking a self-starting, dynamic, flexible and committed individual to join our Chemistry team. We are interested in outstanding individuals keen to work on creating long-term value for the company and ready to grow their skills and experience as the company grows.
The Role-Key responsibilities
• Carry out chemical synthesis and related experimental work to support production of high-purity oligonucleotides and polymers.
• Operate at preparative and larger laboratory scales (hundreds of grams), ensuring reproducibility and batch consistency.
• Apply techniques including standard and anhydrous chemistry, column chromatography, and analytical methods such as LC-MS, HPLC, or UV–Vis where relevant.
• Follow detailed SOPs and work instructions with accuracy and attention to safety, quality, and documentation.
• Support process optimisation, scale-up experiments, and troubleshooting under guidance from senior scientists.
• Maintain well-organised laboratory and production areas in line with ISO 9001 and internal quality standards.
• Collaborate across scientific and engineering teams to deliver project milestones efficiently.
Requirements
• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong practical laboratory skills with experience in synthetic or process chemistry.
• Comfortable performing reactions at multi-gram to multi-hundred-gram scale.
• Familiarity with techniques such as chromatography, moisture-sensitive reactions, and analytical characterisation.
• Methodical and accurate in executing SOPs, recording data, and reporting results.
• Quick learner, adaptable to new equipment and evolving processes.
• Enthusiastic about industrial-scale chemistry and continuous improvement.
Attitude and Team Fit
• Dependable and conscientious, with a high standard of laboratory practice.
• Proactive and curious, eager to develop new techniques and understand process fundamentals.
• Detail-oriented, with strong documentation discipline.
• Flexible to accommodate production schedules when required.
• Team-oriented, supportive, and communicative in a collaborative environment.
• Professional and adaptable within a fast-paced, growing organisation.
What We Offer
• Practical training and mentorship in industrial synthetic and process chemistry.
• Involvement in the scale-up of novel oligonucleotide and polymer manufacturing methods.
• Exposure to a multidisciplinary environment bridging synthetic chemistry, engineering, and analytical chemistry.
• Competitive remuneration and opportunities for professional growth.
Location
On-site at our Dagenham East facility, five days per week.
