Description

Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the WTW Climate Practice as an Lead Associate, specialising in physical climate risks and resilience.

The successful candidate will join a team of industry-leading experts spanning insurance, science, catastrophe modelling, and engineering, with the aim of providing unrivalled analytical services in climate change, natural hazards, adaptation, and resilience. Working in a flexible hybrid environment, you will encounter a variety of technical challenges as diverse as the industries and individuals we serve, involving projects on a global scale. The position is for London with a requirement for office attendance.

A key aspect of this opportunity is the expectation that you will apply in-depth climate and natural hazard expertise in risk management, combined with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. In addition to leading consulting projects, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the climate practice.

The Role:
  • Managing and leading consulting projects for WTW’s corporate clients in physical climate change risks and natural catastrophes by utilising data, research, problem-solving, and analytical models and tools.
  • Leading analytical tasks and processes associated with our projects (e.g., working with data, modelling portfolios, running models, using climate data, creating dashboards, etc.).
  • Leading analysts and junior colleagues and being responsible for project management of your projects (budgets, resourcing etc.)
  • Support a wide range of consulting projects globally, including climate change risk assessments, adaptation planning and assessment, catastrophe risk modelling, and risk engineering assessments.
  • Present deliverables to internal and external clients.
  • Interact with other specialists in actuarial modelling, enterprise risk management, transition risk, insurance, and sustainability.
  • Support the development and application of innovative approaches for identifying and quantifying climate and natural hazard risks for clients, particularly in regions where no standardised risk assessment tools or models exist.
  • Help develop business opportunities in the climate and natural catastrophe risk consulting space.
  • Keep up to date with the latest scientific, business, and regulatory developments related to climate change.
  • Share knowledge, collaborate, and mentor junior team members.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Strong analytical, engineering, science, or mathematical background, with experience in climate change risk, natural hazards, and sustainability.
  • Strong project management and team leadership skills as well as good business development and presentation skills
  • Proactive and motivated, with strong critical thinking skills, willing to take ownership of projects and responsibilities
  • Able to communicate scientific, statistical, mathematical, and financial concepts to non-technical audiences; comfortable and enthusiastic presenter.
  • Ability to leverage available data sources to answer questions and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of GIS tools, R, Power BI, and coding would be an advantage.
  • Expertise in a particular natural hazard (e.g., flood) would be an advantage.
  • Where possible, experience using third-party climate or catastrophe models such as RMS, AIR, RQE, KatRisk, or at least a good understanding of probabilistic and catastrophe modelling concepts.
