Teacher of Computer Science & Digital Technology

Location: Tower Hamlets, East London

School Type: Independent Secondary School & Sixth Form

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Start Date: January Start

An esteemed independent secondary school and Sixth Form in Tower Hamlets, ideally situated near London’s premier tech and financial districts, is seeking an innovative, forward-thinking Teacher of Computer Science & Digital Technology to join their high-performing Science & Technology faculty starting in January . This is an exceptional opportunity for a computing specialist, whether an experienced educator or a talented industry practitioner entering teaching, to inspire computational logic, software development, and digital innovation across a high-achieving student body.

About the Role

As a Teacher of Computer Science, you will equip students with the technical skills and algorithmic thinking needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Joining the school for the spring term, you will deliver academically rigorous, hands-on lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Computer Science), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Computer Science), covering core areas such as Python programming, data structures, cybersecurity, computer architecture, and systems software.

  • Start Date: January

  • Environment: A prestigious independent co-educational school recognized for academic excellence, small class sizes, cutting-edge ICT infrastructure, and strong student progression into top STEM degree programs

  • Culture: A collaborative, tech-forward department equipped with modern coding suites, robotics hardware, cloud-based learning platforms, and proactive leadership

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-rigor Computer Science lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 that combine abstract computational theory with practical coding and software construction.

  • Prepare GCSE and A-Level candidates thoroughly for written examinations and practical coding assessments using data-driven tracking, code reviews, and detailed feedback routines.

  • Foster algorithmic problem-solving and cyber literacy by integrating emerging technologies, real-world industry practices, and ethical computing debates into the curriculum.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and track individual student progress, implementing targeted extension tasks for high-aspiring programmers while supporting developing coders.

  • Contribute positively to co-curricular enrichment, such as competitive coding clubs, robotics teams, cybersecurity challenges (e.g., Cyber Discovery), and hackathons.

Requirements

  • A strong academic background with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related quantitative field (Qualified Teacher Status / QTS is welcomed, though equivalent independent school or higher education teaching experience will be fully recognized).

  • Demonstrated capability or proven experience teaching Computer Science up to GCSE and A-Level standard, with strong proficiency in high-level programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#).

  • Comprehensive understanding of national Computer Science examination specifications (e.g., OCR, AQA, Edexcel).

  • Excellent classroom management, clear technical demonstration skills, and a genuine passion for digital technology, AI concepts, and software design.

  • Willingness to participate in the broader life of an independent school, including pastoral care and co-curricular programs.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Independent School Salary Scale (highly competitive, above national frameworks, and commensurate with experience and technical expertise).

  • Generous pension scheme, significantly reduced class sizes, extended school holidays, continuous professional development (CPD), funded technical certifications, daily complimentary school lunches, and staff wellbeing initiatives.

How to Apply

If you are an ambitious, technical, and inspiring Computer Science specialist eager to shape the next generation of software engineers and tech leaders at a leading independent school in Tower Hamlets starting this January, we invite you to apply. Please submit your application and covering letter as soon as possible for consideration.
