Maintenance Electrician

Randstad Construction and Property
London

Job Title: Maintenance Electrician

Salary: 38,000 - 44,000 per annum (Dependant on Experience)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)

Call-Out Rota: 1 in 8 weeks (with additional pay)

Are you a qualified and experienced Electrician seeking a vital role within a bustling hospital environment? Do you thrive in a fast-paced setting where your expertise directly contributes to critical operations?

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Electrician to join our on-site team at a busy hospital estate in London. This is a static role within a complex and dynamic healthcare facility, offering a stable Monday to Friday work pattern, competitive salary, and the opportunity to be part of an essential service.

The Role:

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all electrical systems and associated infrastructure across the hospital estate. Your role will involve a blend of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs, working to high standards in a critical healthcare environment. You will also participate in an essential on-call rota to support out-of-hours emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Execute scheduled electrical maintenance tasks, including routine checks, testing, and servicing of power distribution systems, lighting (standard and emergency), switchgear, control panels, fire alarm systems, and nurse call systems.

  • Reactive Maintenance & Fault Finding: Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and urgent repair requests. Diagnose complex electrical faults efficiently and implement effective repairs to minimise disruption to hospital operations and patient care.

  • Electrical Testing & Compliance: Conduct electrical testing and inspection (e.g., PAT testing, emergency light testing, RCD testing) in strict compliance with BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) and relevant statutory requirements and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs).

  • Minor Installations & Upgrades: Carry out minor electrical installations, modifications, and upgrades as required, ensuring all work adheres to current regulations and hospital standards.

  • Building Services Support: Provide multi-skilled support where competent, assisting with basic mechanical plant checks, BMS monitoring, and general fabric issues as part of the wider maintenance team.

  • Emergency Response (On-Call): Participate in a 1-in-8 call-out rota, responding to out-of-hours electrical emergencies across the hospital estate. A driving license is essential for this purpose.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, inspections, plant readings, and incidents using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and site logbooks.

  • Health & Safety: Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, site-specific risk assessments, and safe systems of work (SSOW), ensuring a secure working environment for yourself, colleagues, patients, and visitors.

  • Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Communicate professionally with clinical staff, hospital management, patients, and other contractors, providing clear updates on maintenance progress and resolutions.

About You:

  • Electrically Qualified:

    • City & Guilds 2360/2330/2365 (Levels 2 & 3 Electrical Installations).

    • City & Guilds 2382 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).

    • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent is highly desirable though not essential.

  • Proven Experience: Demonstrable experience as a Maintenance Electrician, ideally within a healthcare, critical, or large commercial environment.

  • Fault-Finding Excellence: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across diverse electrical systems.

  • Hospital Environment Awareness: Understanding of the sensitive nature of working within a patient-facing environment.

  • Driving Licence: A full UK Driving Licence is required for call-out duties.
