Senior Staff Nurse - Emergency Department
Job overview
The post is a result of collaborative cancer patients improvement programme aimed to provide people with haematological cancers and myeloid diseases with an excellent experience of care and commitment to support cancer care as the trust top quality priorities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in developing nursing expertise in Aplastic Anaemia and bone marrow failure diseases to improve experience of a national population.
- To work as an expert Aplastic Anaemia/BMF nurse within cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team
- To manage a caseload of patients/clients effectively in accordance with agreed National and South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA) guidance, protocols and pathways of care
- To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical, emotional, psychological and social assessment and support in accordance with Personalised Care Standards
- To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines
- To establish clear lines of communication within the specialty team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients
- To be integral part of established cancer team and specialist MDM, maintaining excellent communication to support coordinated care between sites
- To be act as a patient advocate at cancer MDM
- To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in the community

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC level 1 Registered Nurse
- Educated to a degree level of above
- Relevant post registration qualification and evidence of professional development
Desirable criteria
- Advanced Communication Skills
- Level 2 psychological skills
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive clinical experience pertinent to cancer care, oncology and/or Speciality specific
- Experience of managing caseload of patients
- Experience to work independently and as part of a Multi Disciplinary Team
- Experience of data collection for audits, analysing data and delivering presentations
- Sound knowledge of Cancer Personalised Care and NHS Long term plan
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Communication skills: ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers, with different levels of understanding
- Ability to build rapport with patients and MDT
- Strong leadership skills
