This role is a fantastic opportunity for a marketer to work on innovative promotional campaigns within the busy marketing team of a global academic publisher.

Reporting into a Senior Marketing Manager, the successful candidate will be working across Literary Studies, Creative Writing and Acting & Performance books within Bloomsbury’s award-winning Academic division. The role uses the full marketing mix, as well as working closely with the Sales and Editorial teams, to create awareness and generate sales for titles ranging from general interest and course books through to research and reference works.

This role is also responsible for acting as the Academic Marketing representative within the Bloomsbury Academic Writing Fellowship working group. The Academic Writing Fellowship forms a key part of our DEI initiatives to improve access and representation in academic publishing. This involves working alongside editorial, Writers & Artists, marketing and communications colleagues to widely promote the Fellowship and associated events like the Writers & Artists Academic Writing Lecture Series.

The role

  • Implementation of UK/ROW (i.e. all territories outside Americas, India and Australia) marketing strategy, spend and budget for the across Literary Studies, Creative Writing and Acting & Performance lists
  • Work closely with the UK and US Drama and Literary Studies marketers, as well as the Sales team, to deliver results-driven, creative marketing campaigns to drive adoptions, usage, engagement, brand-recognition and sales of print and eBooks.
  • Implementing all aspects of marketing plans for the lists, including but not limited to: collaboration with external organisations (e.g. societies); email marketing; web marketing and SEO; social media; publicity and review copies; academic and industry (e.g. actor) conferences and events; print and online advertising (including PPC); trade advertising; author care; sales materials and support.
  • Improving discoverability online through optimising marketing copy and data

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable marketing experience, ideally within academic publishing
  • Direct experience of organising or assisting with all or most of the following:
    • Budgeting/planning and monitoring budget spend
    • Digital marketing by email, web, social media and PPC
    • Conference attendance/planning/producing lists/organising inserts
    • Proofreading and copywriting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience of building and maintaining relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation and a good eye for detail
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills

Desirable

  • Good understanding of the latest developments in higher education and the publishing industry
  • An understanding of academic adoption sales cycles
  • Experience of devising creative/experimental campaigns under own initiative
  • Knowledge of web analytics tools, search engine optimisation, and social media monitoring platforms

Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position.

Salary range: £29,000 - £32,000 depending on skills and experience

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesday and Thursday.

This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
