Role Overview
An inspiring primary school in Wandsworth is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and nurturing Year 1 Teacher to join their Key Stage 1 team ASAP. In this pivotal role, you will guide young learners through the foundational transition from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) into Key Stage 1. You will create a rich, structured, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages curiosity, early literacy, and numeracy development. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers are equally encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, differentiated lessons aligned with the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum.
Lead daily systematic synthetic phonics lessons to build reading fluency and prepare pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
Establish smooth classroom routines that support child-initiated learning alongside structured academic tasks.
Collaborate closely with teaching assistants, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to ensure tailored support for pupils with SEND or EAL needs.
Maintain open, encouraging communication with parents and carers to promote home-school learning partnerships.
Key Requirements
Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
Proven teaching experience or strong placement record within Key Stage 1 or EYFS.
Strong proficiency in accredited phonics schemes (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or Sounds-Write).
Excellent classroom management skills and a warm, child-centred approach.
Legal right to work in the UK.
