Role Overview
A dedicated and nurturing primary school in Brent is seeking an empathetic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join its inclusion team. This full-time, term-time-only role focuses on providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The position is ideal for an experienced SEN assistant or a psychology graduate looking to build specialized experience in educational support. Working under the guidance of the SENCO and class teachers, you will help adapt learning activities, manage sensory needs, and champion an inclusive, encouraging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
1:1 & Targeted Support: Deliver structured 1:1 learning support, sensory routines, and adapted tasks tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Communication & Engagement: Utilize visual schedules, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), and simple Makaton where appropriate to promote pupil communication and independence.
Behaviour & Well-being: Support emotional regulation, de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement strategies, and create safe sensory spaces.
Collaborative Planning: Work closely with the school SENCO, class teachers, and visiting professionals (e.g., Speech & Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists) to track progress.
Qualifications & Skills: Experience supporting children with complex needs or SEN, strong patience and resilience, relevant qualifications (or GCSE Grade C/4 in English and Maths), and a clear Enhanced DBS check.
