The Role: UK Specialty Catastrophe Analyst
We are seeking a Catastrophe Analyst to join our UK Specialty Catastrophe Analytics team in London. The role focuses primarily on Marine & Energy, Terrorism, and other Specialty lines.
This is a client‑facing analytical role offering significant exposure to global portfolios and senior stakeholders. You will lead renewal modelling projects, contribute to the development of innovative analytical solutions, and play an active role in shaping Gallagher Re’s proprietary views of risk across specialty classes.
You will also support the development of junior colleagues, helping to foster a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing culture within the team.
How you'll make an impact- Quantify the catastrophe risk to Gallagher Re client portfolios using vendor catastrophe models and Gallagher Re proprietary models.
- Analyse client exposure date and portfolio structures to evaluate suitability for catastrophe modelling and identifying gaps and limitations.
- Contribute to the development, refinement, and delivery of analytical service offerings in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
- Engage with clients, reinsurers, brokers and actuaries on topics including model interpretation, portfolio optimisation and bespoke analytical solutions.
- Assess and communicate the impact of vendor model updates and methodology changes on portfolio results and risk metrics.
- Provide real‑time event analysis and post‑event reporting, supporting clients during and following catastrophe events.
- Mentor junior analysts and proactively share knowledge to support technical development within the team.
- Degree in a numerate, scientific, or hazard‑related discipline
- Experience within the London or global (re)insurance markets with a solid understanding of reinsurance and specialty classes.
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major vendor catastrophe model (i.e. Moody’s, Verisk).
- Excellent understanding of peril science, model components and catastrophe risk concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to apply catastrophe modelling creatively to support risk assessment and decision‑making.
- Interest in developing bespoke technical and analytical solutions.
- Excellent IT and analytical skills; programming experience (e.g. SQL, VBA, R) is advantageous.
- Ability to process, interpret and analyse complex datasets efficiently and creatively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
