PRSO OFFICER – BRENT Location: Brent, London Pay: £29.13 per hour Department: Accommodation Services We're looking for an experienced housing professional to join a local authority's Accommodation Services team as a Private Rented Sector Offer (PRSO) Officer . You will support households owed a full housing duty, identifying suitable and affordable private rented accommodation and managing the process through to discharge of the council's statutory housing duty. Key responsibilities Assess households' housing needs, personal circumstances and finances to determine the suitability and affordability of accommodation. Make Private Rented Sector Offers in line with relevant housing legislation and council procedures. Prepare and issue statutory Section 184 and Section 193 decision letters, including notifications to other local authorities. Manage a varied caseload, including complex cases involving vulnerable households, legal challenges and complaints. Work closely with landlords, letting agents, housing teams and partner agencies to secure appropriate housing outcomes. Carry out visits within and outside the borough where required. Liaise with medical services, social care and other agencies to support households with additional needs. Maintain accurate case records and respond to enquiries from applicants, solicitors, councillors and other representatives. Monitor PRSO accommodation and tenancies, supporting managed moves where appropriate. What we're looking for Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Parts 6 and 7, the Localism Act 2011 and relevant homelessness legislation and guidance. Understanding of accommodation suitability, affordability assessments, housing benefit rules and the benefit cap. Experience providing housing advice and supporting vulnerable customers in a busy, customer-facing environment. An understanding of private rented housing and the challenges affecting housing supply in London. Strong negotiation, communication and written decision-making skills. The ability to prioritise a caseload, meet deadlines and make sound decisions on complex cases. A degree or equivalent, with strong literacy and numeracy skills.
