Health & Safety Wellbeing Advisor

As a member of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team provide support and subject matter expert advice and guidance to all colleagues across Abri locations and activities to enable Abri to achieve its Health, Safety & Wellbeing strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop close and influential relationships to support the leadership team of specific business functions. Provide advice and guidance on all health safety and wellbeing matters enabling colleagues to resolve work and landlord related H&S issues, and where appropriate escalate matters to the most appropriate leader
  • Work directly or indirectly with enforcement bodies such as the HSE, Local Authorities and Fire and Rescue services to ensure Abri stays up to date with compliance requirements and to respond to regulators enquires, providing them with information and escalating as required
  • Research, design and develop health, safety and wellbeing initiatives supporting managers to drive and deliver organisation change to ensure risk is managed; driving compliance with the law and best practice standards expected by The Regulator of Social Housing
  • Design and promote health, safety and wellbeing resources to support managers with the effective operational management occupational safety risks including the risk assessment process
  • Research, design and deliver training to promote occupational safety health and wellbeing, to keep colleagues safe and well at work
  • Provide expertise and advice to develop, implement and monitor the health and safety management system to maintain compliance with H&S, fire and food safety legislation
  • Evaluate the impact of the health and safety management system by monitoring accident/incidents, undertaking investigation and where appropriate advising on measures to prevent reoccurrence, making recommendations to achieve the required improvements
  • Monitor H&S compliance through inspections and audits across Abri activities including construction sites, corporate offices, residential stock and commercial food premises
  • Support and promote workplace consultation, co-ordination and co-operation with regards to safety, health and wellbeing including holding formal meetings, presenting information in reports
  • Support the implementation of the health surveillance and workplace exposure monitoring programs
  • Adhere to the Group’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy particularly in relation to the roles and responsibilities outlined

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  •  Practical experience in a generalist H&S role in a multi-disciplinary and multi-site environment
  • Tech IOSH working towards Graduate Member of IOSH status, proactively participate in Continuous Professional Development
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential) working towards Nebosh Diploma or equivalent. NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of H&S law and fire safety and the ability to interpret and implement H&S and fire safety legislation
  • Proportionate and balanced approach to risk management
  • Accident and incident investigation skills
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, prioritising workload effectively whilst working under own initiative to meet strict deadlines and maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Auditing and active monitoring skills
  • Experience of developing and delivering a range of H&S safety training
  • Developed Coaching and mentoring skills to improve H&S performance
  • Computer literate with practical knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable and visible improvements in health, safety and wellbeing

The salary for this role is £48,000 per annum with up to 10% pension contribution.
