About Artificial

Help shape the future of specialty insurance

At Artificial, we’re building the next generation of technology for the specialty (re)insurance market. Our mission is to transform how brokers and carriers operate in complex markets by removing operational barriers and enabling smarter, faster decision-making.

We use modern technology to solve real challenges for some of the world’s leading brokers and insurers. By automating the repetitive and structuring the complex, we help our partners unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth.

You’ll be joining a collaborative team that values curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning. We work in an environment where ideas are heard, support is built-in, and outcomes matter. Everyone here has the chance to make a tangible impact on our products, our customers, and the industry.

We've just raised $45M (£33M) in Series B funding from lead investor CommerzVentures, new investor Move Capital, as well as all existing shareholders. This investment round gives us the room to grow with confidence, continue to innovate, and ensure that Artificial remains the first choice for brokers and carriers seeking a smarter way to trade digitally.

Join us, and take the chance to be a part of something that will change the landscape of insurance for generations.

Role background

We are looking for a Field CTO to lead Artificial’s forward-deployed engineering team, who are responsible for working directly with brokers, carriers, and MGAs to design, implement, and scale real-world solutions built on our platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical depth with commercial awareness and operational excellence. You’ll manage a team of engineers embedded with clients, ensuring each engagement delivers measurable impact while feeding product insights back into the core platform.

You’ll work closely with our Co-CEOs, CTOs, and Commercial leadership to define our technical engagement model, shape the structure of the forward-deployed function, and represent Artificial’s technology vision to the market.

Please note, this is a hybrid role with 2–3 days per week based at our HQ or at client site (City of London).

About the role

  • Lead and scale Artificial’s forward-deployed engineering team, setting the standard for technical excellence and delivery across all client engagements.

  • Act as the senior technical authority for client architecture and implementation, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with our platform principles.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers who operate in complex client environments whilst ensuring consistent quality, pace, and knowledge transfer.

  • Translate client business requirements into technical solutions using Brossa, our proprietary domain-specific programming language.

  • Work alongside brokers and underwriters to model insurance products, placement logic, and data flows on the platform.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to turn real-world feedback into roadmap priorities and design improvements.

  • Define and continuously improve delivery processes, tooling, and governance for client projects.

  • Represent Artificial’s technical vision to senior client stakeholders and industry audiences, including conferences and partner forums.

  • Oversee integrations, proof-of-value deployments, and large-scale rollouts, ensuring successful transition from pilot to productio n.

About you

  • Proven experience managing or scaling forward-deployed, solutions, or field engineering teams within enterprise software or SaaS.

  • Deep technical understanding of modern architectures, APIs, and data models.

  • Strong programming background and the ability to engage confidently with both engineers and executives.

  • Excellent communicator who can simplify complex ideas and build trust with senior stakeholders.

  • Commercially minded: you understand how technology decisions affect revenue, cost, and operational performance.

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, high-ambiguity scale-up environment.

  • Organised, delivery-focused, and skilled at balancing short-term wins with long-term product vision.

We especially want to hear from you if you have

  • Experience in (re)insurance, InsurTech, or financial services technology.

  • Experience in functional programming (e.g. Haskell, Elm, Clojure) or domain-specific languages.

  • A track record of leading field or client-facing engineering teams that deliver enterprise implementations.

  • Experience bridging commercial and technical functions to drive measurable outcomes.

  • Public-facing technical experience — whether through thought leadership, panels, or deep technical consulting.

Benefits

  • Private medical insurance

  • Income protection insurance

  • Life insurance of 4 * base salary

  • On-site gym and shower facilities

  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay

  • Team social events and company parties

  • Salary exchange on pension and nursery fees

  • Access to Maji, the financial wellbeing platform

  • Milestone Birthday Bonus and a Life Events leave policy

  • Company stock options managed through Ledgy

  • Generous holiday allowance of 28 days plus national holidays

  • Home office and equipment allowance, and a company MacBook

  • Learning allowance and leave to attend conferences or take exams

  • YuLife employee benefits, including EAP and bereavement helplines

  • For each new hire, we plant a tree through our partnership with Ecologi Action

  • The best coffee machine in London, handmade in Italy and imported just for us!

We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to building a team that reflects the diverse communities around us. If there’s anything you need to make the hiring process more accessible, just let us know—we’re happy to make adjustments. You’re also welcome to share your preferred pronouns with us at any point.

Think you don’t meet every requirement? Please apply anyway. We value potential as much as experience, and we know that raw talent counts.

As part of our hiring process, we’ll carry out some background checks. These may include a criminal record check, reviewing your credit history, speaking with previous employers and confirming your academic qualifications.
