An Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary school and Sixth Form in the East London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is seeking a creative, inspiring, and dynamic Teacher of Music to join their vibrant Expressive Arts faculty starting in January . This is a stellar opportunity for an accomplished musician and educator, whether an experienced practitioner looking to direct ensembles in a top-performing school or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT), to foster musical literacy, compositional creativity, and performance excellence across a talented student body.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Music, you will cultivate a passion for sound, performance, and musicology across a broad range of genres, from classical traditions to contemporary composition and music technology. Joining the department for the spring term, you will deliver engaging, high-rigor lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Music / Vocational Music), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Music / Music Technology / BTEC National in Music), unlocking creative potential and technical discipline in every learner.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver dynamic, high-quality Music lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 that balance practical performance, music technology, composition, and analytical listening skills.
Prepare students thoroughly for national GCSE, A-Level, and vocational Music examinations using data-driven tracking, portfolio moderation, and structured feedback routines.
Lead and coordinate co-curricular ensembles, choirs, bands, and orchestra rehearsals, directing school concerts, seasonal showcases, and regional musical events.
Liaise with and manage peripatetic instrumental and vocal tutors to ensure a cohesive, flourishing instrumental tuition program across the school.
Track, evaluate, and support student progress, nurturing gifted young musicians toward conservatoire/university pathways while making music inclusive and accessible to all key stages.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Music, Music Performance, Composition, or a closely related discipline (proficiency in piano, keyboard, or a primary instrument/vocal performance is highly desirable).
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Music teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5 A-Level/BTEC Music experience is a strong advantage).
Thorough knowledge of national Music examination board specifications (e.g., Eduqas, AQA, Edexcel, Pearson) and music software applications.
Superior classroom presence, strong conducting/ensemble direction skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for musical craft and creative expression.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Instrumental Music Coordination or Performing Arts leadership.
