HR Business Partner Maternity Cover
About us
We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark's residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.
At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities.? Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark's communities and the council's staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.
About the role
We believe our greatest strength to be our people. Driven by values that promote openness, honesty and accountability, we're committed to ensuring our staff, residents and communities are enabled to reach their full potential.
We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to join us on a 12-month maternity cover, working predominantly across our Children & Adults Services.
As an HR Business Partner, you'll work closely with senior managers, key stakeholders and HR colleagues, providing high-quality operational HR business partnering across a varied and fast-paced portfolio. You'll provide expert advice, guidance and practical people solutions that support service priorities, strengthen management capability and contribute to a positive employee experience.
This is a broad generalist HR role. You'll support senior managers with workforce planning, organisational and service change, complex employee relations, resourcing and people management, while helping services anticipate and respond to both current and future workforce challenges. You'll use workforce information and data to identify trends, inform decision-making and help managers develop effective and sustainable people solutions.
You'll also play an important role in working collaboratively with our Trade Unions. You'll coach and challenge managers, provide clear and pragmatic advice and help ensure that people processes are managed fairly, consistently and effectively.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced HR professional with strong generalist knowledge and postgraduate membership of the CIPD, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. You'll have experience of HR business partnering within a large and complex organisation and be confident advising on complex employee relations and organisational change. You'll also be able to interpret workforce data, influence senior stakeholders and build constructive relationships with Trade Unions.
You'll be organised, resilient and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy. Most importantly, you'll be able to combine sound professional judgement with a practical, solutions-focused approach, while knowing when to challenge and when to collaborate to achieve the best outcome.
In return, you'll join a supportive HR Business Partnering team with the opportunity to work across a varied and high-profile portfolio, develop your professional experience and contribute directly to the delivery of services that make a difference to Southwark's residents.
