About the Role
We are recruiting a Temporary Kitchen Assistant to work at a children's nursery in Marylebone. This is a temporary position paying £15.12 per hour. The successful candidate will support the nursery kitchen team to prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for children, maintain high standards of hygiene, and ensure mealtimes run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with basic food preparation including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients under supervision.
Prepare and serve meals and snacks in line with prescribed menus and dietary requirements.
Ensure all meals are prepared and served following food safety, allergy and nutrition guidelines for early years settings.
Clean and sanitise kitchen surfaces, equipment, utensils, and crockery to maintain a safe food environment.
Support stock rotation and basic inventory checks, notifying the manager when supplies are low.
Follow nursery safeguarding policies and report any concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
Work cooperatively with nursery staff to support calm, positive mealtimes and meet children's individual needs.
Person Specification
Previous kitchen or food preparation experience is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.
Understanding of food hygiene, allergens, and safe food handling practices; Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is advantageous.
Willingness to follow recipes and portion guidance to meet nutritional needs of young children.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a small, friendly team.
Enhanced DBS check is desirable given the childcare setting; can be arranged if required.
Good communication skills and a patient, child-centered approach.
Hours, Location & Pay
Location: Marylebone, London (children's nursery).
Hours: Temporary position with flexible shifts to cover mornings, lunchtimes and occasional afternoons; exact schedule to be agreed.
Rate of pay: £15.12 per hour.
Start date: Immediate/short notice preferred.
