Job Overview
We are excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our team. As a TA at Maple Walk you will play a pivotal role in supporting our Class Teacher and assist in Year 2 to support the children's learning and development. Maple Walk is a warm, vibrant, successful coeducational independent prep school for children aged 4-11 in North West London, housed in a bespoke eco-friendly building. You will be working with a supportive and inclusive Senior Management Team and other colleagues, with a good programme of training and INSET activities on offer.
Working closely with teachers to help pupils to achieve their potential, offering them support pastorally and with their academic work under the direction of the teacher.
Must have the right to work in the UK; minimum 1 year experience as a teaching assistant in a primary school setting
Your main responsibilities will include:
Supporting Pupils:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions;
- Helping pupils use equipment and materials effectively;
- Motivating and encouraging the class;
- Assisting in a range of subject areas, e.g. Language, mathematics, reading, spelling, handwriting/presentation, behaviour, etc.
- Supporting pupils to concentrate on and finish work set;
- Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence;
- Assisting the teacher in developing appropriate resources.
- Helping to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
- Establishing a supportive relationship with the pupils.
- Developing methods of promoting/reinforcing the child's self-esteem.
- Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of all pupils.
Supporting Teaching:
- Assisting with teaching groups of children as directed.
- Participating in cover arrangements for absent staff.
- Contributing to the maintenance of pupil progress records.
- Assisting with any personal or medical needs of the children that may arise.
- Assisting with the development of a suitable programme of support for pupils in the class.
- Participating in discussions about pupil progress and wellbeing with the teacher.
- Assisting with displays, filing, tidying, photocopying and the maintenance of resources.
Supporting the School:
- Attending planning and evaluation meetings, staff meetings and relevant in-service training as requested.
- Participating in the school's appraisal arrangements.
- Assisting in the implementation of the school's policies towards discipline, child protection and health and safety.
- Maintaining confidentiality as needed.
- Communicating with parents at the request of the class teacher.
- Assisting with other classes as and when necessary.
- Being on duty at break and accompanying children on trips.
- Assisting in pre or post school arrangements as needed.
Supporting Child Protection:
- Providing a safe environment for children at all times.
- Maintaining professional standards and adhere to health and safety requirements, as well as Child Protection/Safeguarding guidelines.
- Actively engaging with and promoting the School's Child Protection Policy.
- Reporting any concerns relating to children's welfare to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately.
- Undertaking regular Child Protection training as required.
Candidates with the experience or relevant job titles of; Class Teacher: Classroom Teacher, Homeroom Teacher, Primary School Teacher, Elementary Teacher, Middle School Teacher, High School Teacher, Subject Teacher, Lead Teacher, Form Tutor, Head Teacher may also be considered for this role.
