Are you an experienced designer looking for an opportunity to apply your creative talents to campaigns that genuinely change the world?
About the RoleAt 89up, we are dedicated to delivering world-class digital and printed content for our clients' campaigns and organisations. This encompasses impactful video and static content for social media and events, print collateral, and comprehensive visual branding. These outputs are frequently integral components of larger integrated communications campaigns delivered by our agency, or specific requests from clients to empower their work.
Our design team collaborates closely with our web design and development team to craft exceptional websites for campaigns and large organisations. This includes producing lightning-fast campaign platforms for rapid-response initiatives, as well as robust web platforms for NGOs and other non-profit organisations.
We are seeking a talented and proactive Mid-Weight Designer to join our dynamic team. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple diverse projects with agility, and is deeply passionate about contributing to good causes. You should possess a keen interest in design and creative trends, constantly exploring how these can be effectively implemented for our clients. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, confident in taking initiative, and eager to contribute across various facets of our creative output.
What You Will DoThe role primarily focuses on motion and static design for social media, digital, and print, with a significant opportunity to lead and expand into brand development, web design, and UX. We work across a wide range of visual styles, from illustrative explainer films to clean, vector-based motion design - so you’ll need to be comfortable adapting your approach depending on the brief and the client. Versatility and a strong visual eye are key.
- Social and Digital Content: You will conceptualise and create a wide range of compelling social content (moving image/animated and static), as well as digital display ads, ensuring they are optimised for impact.
- Print Design: You will be responsible for designing high-quality reports, event collateral, and other print materials, ensuring brand consistency and visual appeal.
- Brand Development: You will develop visual branding for campaigns and organisations, working with colleagues in research & insight to ground the visual concepts in data insights
- UX/UI Development and Design : You will work closely with our web specialists to conduct UX research, strategies and designs for our clients organisational or campaign websites
- Creative Development: You will play a key role in evolving internal and client briefs, contributing innovative ideas for pitches and campaigns. This will involve close collaboration with colleagues across our digital, PR, advocacy, research, and web teams.
- Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Working closely with our Head of Design and supporting other designers, you will contribute to the production of high-quality outputs. For social content, you will also collaborate with our digital Advocacy team, utilising data insights to refine design outputs for targeted paid social campaigns, and support our client servicing team in the delivery of integrated campaigns. You will have a strong voice in creative ideation and shaping the team's approach to new briefs, and may mentor junior team members.
You will be a smart, proactive, and highly organised individual capable of managing multiple projects and client requests efficiently. Your fascination with how motion and graphic design can inspire, communicate, and evoke action will be evident in your portfolio. You should be expert in current trends and creative concepts within social media content and broader digital design.
Core Skills:
- Proficiency: Demonstrated high-level competency with Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop is essential, as well as editing skills in Premiere Pro .
- Experience: Proven experience designing for both print and digital outputs, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your capabilities. You will be expected to showcase your ability to take a client's brief from concept through to an impactful final output, working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues.
- Communication: Very high standard of written and spoken English.
- Adaptability: Willingness to train and effectively utilise new software and tools.
Highly Desirable Skills:
- UX/UI Design: Experience in UX development and web design, including wireframing, prototyping, user flows, and conducting user research.
- Web Platform Experience: Experience using content management systems (especially Drupal or WordPress).
- Technical Understanding: Knowledge of HTML/CSS and base knowledge of SEO.
- Marketing & Strategy: Understanding of digital marketing strategies and the integrated communications landscape.
- Project Management: Experience in preparing and presenting proposals, client, and resource management.
This role offers a unique opportunity to hone your talent, broaden your skill-set, and fast-track your career progression within a passionate, supportive, and friendly environment. You will gain significant exposure to senior team members (experts in a variety of fields who offer masterclasses and mentoring), and diverse opportunities within the integrated marketing mix, allowing you to learn about other specialisms and apply your skills.
What We’re Offering- Hybrid Working: 3 office days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as core days. You may need to come into the office on Mondays and Fridays for important meetings).
- Generous Leave: 24 days holiday (a maximum of 4 days are taken for closure over Christmas, plus an additional day off on your birthday).
- Competitive Compensation: A competitive base salary with performance-linked discretionary bonuses twice yearly.
- Family Support: Enhanced maternity/paternity pay.
- Financial Security: Pension company contributions, gold-plated sickness benefits, and life insurance.
- Wellbeing: Online GP, private counselling, eyecare vouchers, and a comprehensive wellbeing service.
- Commuting: Cycle-to-work scheme.

- Career Growth: Clear career progression pathways and opportunities to develop in a fast-growth agency.
- Mentorship: Formal mentoring and training schemes to support your success.
