Locum Consultant Haematologist
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Haematologist to undertake 10PAs at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. The Department is a specialist centre for haemoglobin and red cell disorders, operating as the centre for a large Red Cell Network. We also treat a wide range of malignant and benign conditions, including level 2B malignant haematology patients (salvage chemotherapy for lymphoma), with the exception of haemophilia, intensive treatment of acute leukaemia and bone marrow transplantation. We offer a comprehensive nurse-led anticoagulation service and we have an established hospital transfusion service. Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training or equivalent. Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a dynamic and friendly team to provide a full range of Clinical Haematology services at NMUH. The post-holder will have a comprehensive training in haematology and will be capable of handling the range of clinical and laboratory haematology problems that occur in the setting on a district general hospital. The post-holder will be encouraged and supported to develop an interest in myeloid disorders and will also lead on immune haematological disorders such as ITP and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. The appointee will be expected to work with other specialities to develop service pathways and guidance related to cancer-associated thrombosis. and to develop the department's research portfolio in non-malignant haematology. The post-holder will review General Haematology referrals, including two-week wait target referrals. They will be encouraged and supported to develop a specific interest in thrombosis, leading on obstetric haematology matters. They will also be the named lead for patients with immune-related haematological disorders. The post-holder will also have an opportunity to play an active role in the North London non-malignant research network, and to develop the research portfolio and drive recruitment into clinical studies involving non-malignant disorders at NMUH. The post-holder will be part of an enthusiastic and friendly team of 6 consultant haematologists, 6 trainee doctors; 3 nurse specialists and a highly experienced Transfusion Practitioner. There is an expectation that by taking on other SPA roles, this ratio will become 7.5 DCC to 2.5 SPA and the provisional timetable has been written to reflect this. Qualifications & Training
Essential
- MRCP or equivalent medical degree
- Full GMC registration (and with a licence to practise)
- Applicants that are UK trained, must hold an FRCPath (Haematology) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained will require evidence of equivalence to the FRCPath and a UK CCT.
