Consulting Director

Impatient Health
London

About the job

This is a senior-level opportunity for a proven leader in strategy and design to shape the future of a fast-growing consultancy. As our Consulting Director, reporting into the Head of Consulting, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-impact projects from end-to-end, managing a team of consultants, and supercharging the growth of our Consultancy practice in the life sciences.

Working directly with the Head of Consulting, you will take ownership of building client relationships, crafting innovative project designs and strategies to complex challenges, and scaling systems to ensure continuous growth. This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in life sciences consulting and a passion for creative approaches.

We are looking only for the brightest and sharpest minds. Are you a strategic thinker with a deep curiosity in tomorrow’s biggest healthcare challenges? Are you a problem-solver that doesn’t quite fit into the ‘conventional’ box? Are you excited to be part of a global team and contribute your knowledge and experience by working with life sciences clients? If so, we’d love you to apply.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to supercharge our growth, using your creativity and commercial nous to broaden and deepen our current areas of practice.

our practice areas focus on:

Human AI & Digital Transformation

We believe AI should augment human intelligence, not replace it. We focus on human transformation, ensuring teams, leaders, and cultures are equipped to thrive as AI becomes woven into everyday work.

Marketer of the Future

Our work here is underpinned by our Customer Leadership philosophy. This is about challenging teams to think boldly, experiment fearlessly and craft stories and strategies that will provoke and inspire customers to take meaningful action. We help teams build the right mindset and behaviours and then embed this thinking into the day to day of brand messaging, planning and customer engagement.

Medical as a Strategic Force

We work with Medical Affairs teams to define their scope as future leaders, build the capabilities required for effective partnership across the organisation, and translate complex science into clear, compelling stories that enable the right engagement.

Patient 360

Patient 360 is our approach to creating patient engagement strategies that stay connected across the entire product lifecycle. We believe patient insights have the greatest impact when there is continuity in what we hear, consistency in how we interpret it, and clarity in how we use it to shape decisions and drive change.

Who we're looking for

We’re seeking an experienced leader with a passion for disrupting the status quo in pharma with the below minimum qualifications:

  • Consulting Experience: You have 7+ years of strategy or management consulting experience, with at least 4 years focussed on life sciences or pharma.

  • Life Sciences Industry Knowledge: You have gained expertise working on life sciences projects in the areas relevant to our practice focus areas.

  • You’re an experienced, pace-setting leader who invests deeply in your team’s growth and brings out the best in those around you.

Who You Are

In addition to the above, some of the qualities you possess are:

  • You’re impact driven: you want to leave this world better than you found it and our mission gives you chills

  • Your standards are sky-high: you understand what genuine innovation looks and feels like and you have a strong track record managing teams who deliver it

  • You’re creative: cookie cutter consulting is not your bag. You care deeply about finding the best possible solution for the problem at hand

  • Ambiguity excites you: you love turning clarity into chaos and know how to guide teams to solve knotty problems with a clear process

  • You’re an engaging facilitator: able to whip up a workshop in a flash and coach others to do the same

  • You’re a charismatic communicator: you’re capable of identifying and articulating messages clearly and could inspire a blank wall

  • Your commercial acumen is second to none: you’re able to contribute to the overall company strategy and growth

  • You’re resilient and relentless: you turn strategy into action and stay accountable to your vision

  • You’re independent: you’re most comfortable with a decentralized high trust environment and never wait to be ‘told what to do’

  • You have bags of EQ: you’re able to adapt your management style to get the best out of your team.

About the Role

You will take ownership of high-impact projects, lead client engagements, and mentor a team of consultants, all while shaping the future of our growing firm. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building a Portfolio of Work: Partner with the Head of Consulting to develop and execute a strategic vision for the practice. Expand our portfolio by growing relationships with existing clients and securing new opportunities.

  • Leading Client Engagements: Take ownership of strategic consulting projects from ideation to delivery, focusing on high-priority practice areas. Ensure projects deliver tangible outcomes and client satisfaction.

  • Hands-On Problem Solving: Dive into the details when needed, from navigating complex stakeholder dynamics to shaping corporate strategies, managing change, and addressing challenges in drug development and launch.

  • Shaping Project Delivery: Understand complex and sometimes ambiguous client needs to design and deliver innovative solutions. Maintain a strategic focus while ensuring quality and impact at every stage of the engagement.

  • Driving Business Development: Lead efforts to identify new opportunities, craft compelling proposals, and pitch to prospective clients. Build lasting partnerships by understanding client challenges and positioning Impatient Health’s unique value proposition.

  • Mentoring and Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a diverse, global team of consultants, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Invest in their growth and success while delivering high-performance outcomes.

  • Innovation Strategy : Apply cutting-edge methodologies like design thinking and service design to create solutions that challenge industry norms and deliver exceptional value.

Please Note: All applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom (UK).

About Impatient Health

There are thousands, maybe even millions, of consulting companies in the world. Only a few are trying to bring something new to the world. We believe our company, Impatient Health, is one of them.

Our work is exclusively in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech industries, which tend to think of themselves as mature and conservative in their approach to risk. We’re here to help them become more ambitious, open-minded and creative - because patients demand it. We help them dream, and then turn those dreams into reality.

We are also growing fast. Despite being young (5 years), we have grown some incredible assets - (i) knowing everyone in the industry, (ii) having an ‘independent’ positioning, and (iii) having a CEO who is known as a disruptor & thought-leader. Because of this, we receive many organic approaches from potential clients who are looking for help on a wide variety of projects. We need someone who can work as a trusted collaborator with our Head of Consulting to convert these into long standing, growing engagements.

life at Impatient.

Work/Life Balance: We’re all aiming to strike the right work life balance. You'll get together regularly with the UK-based members of our team - while still having the flexibility to work remotely. Ultimately: we care more about outcomes than output. We want you to get the job done in the way that works for you. Craving some sun during winter? You'll be free to work from wherever you're most productive.

Learning Opportunities: Your personal development is our collective future success. In addition to dedicated regular time to progressing your career goals, we also offer 'study leave' for if you’re working towards something big - our senior leadership team are here to offer support and guidance for your development.

Culture: Remote-first doesn't need to mean distant - we’re a friendly bunch at Impatient and overcompensate for our lack of office with some amazing offsites and moments of connection. We'll make sure you get the face time to form connections with the wider team.

Mind, Body & Soul: Stipend of £750 a year for wellness. This annual credit can also be used towards professional development, self-care, or an experience that takes you somewhere new. We also provide extra funds for simply going to visit other members of the team!

Employee Wellbeing: We care deeply about our employee's well-being and that’s why we offer mental health support through a partner mental health service which lets you speak to a therapist anytime you need, alongside private healthcare for UK-based employees.

Here’s what to expect from our interview process:

A 20-25 minute intro call

A 50 minute skills interview

A take home task, to be presented at a final session with our founders and the Head of Consulting
