Business Development Representative

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

Location: Remote/hybrid (UK-based team meet twice a month)

Hours: Flexible, agreed outreach windows (Mon–Fri business hours)

Rate: £115 per day / Equivalent to £30,000 per year + commission

Contract Type: Freelance / Contractor

This role is ideal for experienced outbound professionals who take a consultative, quality-first approach and enjoy generating meaningful business conversations.

Role description

We are looking for a proactive and confident Business Development Representative ( BDR) to support our growing B2B sales activity.

Staff Skills academy+ provides online compliance, professional development and wellbeing training to organisations across the UK. We are expanding our outreach efforts to connect with decision-makers responsible for training, HR, Learning and Development, compliance, and workforce development.

This role is focused on initiating conversations with potential clients, qualifying interest, and booking high-quality sales appointments for our Chief Commercial Officer.

You will play a key role in helping us expand our partnerships and reach organisations that can benefit from our training solutions.

Main duties
  • Conduct outbound cold calls to UK based businesses and organisations
  • Introduce our training solutions and clearly communicate their potential value
  • Identify decision-makers and qualify potential opportunities
  • Book appointments for the academy+ CCO with qualified prospects
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and call notes
  • Follow up on leads via phone and email where appropriate
  • Work towards agreed outreach and appointment targets
  • Provide feedback on messaging and prospect responses

Must haves
  • Proven experience in cold calling, appointment setting, or outbound B2B sales (Saas preferable)
  • Confident, professional telephone manner
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Resilience and comfort handling objections
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with business decision-makers
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Reliable internet connection and suitable calling setup

Nice to haves
  • Experience selling training, SaaS, or professional B2B services
  • Familiarity with HR, compliance, or L&D sectors
  • CRM experience (HubSpot)
  • Email outreach experience
