What will you be working on?

As a Graduate Fire Engineer, you’ll work on a variety of exciting projects, helping to develop innovative fire engineering solutions for new and existing buildings.

Your work will include:

  • Carrying out fire engineering analysis on a
    range of new and existing building projects.
  • Working across a diverse range of buildings,
    including high-rise office buildings, large retail complexes and airport
    developments, each presenting its own unique challenges.
  • Analysing fire growth, means of escape,
    structural fire resistance and smoke control using a variety of methods,
    including computer modelling software such as Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Preparing technical reports and liaising with
    clients, including some of the largest building developers in the country.

Requirements and Qualifications

To set you up for success in the role, you’ll need:

  • Right to work in the UK or Ireland.
  • A Master’s degree, achieved within the last two
    years or expected, in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
    Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or Physics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
    skills in English.
  • Additional qualifications and experience

The following would also help you succeed in the role:

  • A team player who can work effectively with
    colleagues at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and time management
    skills.
  • Enthusiasm to innovate.
  • A second European language is an advantage but
    not essential.

We’ve successfully welcomed Graduate Fire Engineers from a variety of STEM Master’s backgrounds, including Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering and Physics. Many of these individuals have gone on to build outstanding careers with us.

Graduate Development Programme

Starting your career is about more than your first role, it’s about building the foundations for your future.

Our Graduate Development Programme gives you hands-on project experience, mentorship and support as you work towards professional accreditation. Over two years, you’ll gain experience across fire engineering and related disciplines, helping you build the knowledge and skills needed for a successful and impactful career.

You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as you progress through the programme, helping you continue to develop your technical knowledge and professional skills. We provide support and encouragement for Engineers working towards Chartered Engineer status , helping you work towards this important professional milestone as you build your career with Jensen Hughes.
