The Assistant Improvement Manager is responsible for supporting the effective delivery of assigned projects within the King’s QI Programme. Reporting to the Senior Improvement Manager, the post-holder will lead the scoping, planning, and execution of projects to meet agreed timelines and quality expectations. The role involves promoting and coaching on the fundamentals of the QI approach through training and mentoring staff in improvement methodology.

The Assistant Improvement Manager plays a vital role in supporting quality improvement initiatives within the Quality Improvement and Innovation department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Improvement Capability
· Foster a sustainable culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
· Provide QI coaching and support across various projects.
· Enhance understanding of improvement methodologies and change management.
· Support the development and delivery of QI training programmes to build staff capability.
2. Project Management
· Lead multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver service improvements.
· Ensure effective planning, risk management, and execution of improvement projects.
· Maintain robust governance, ensuring sustainability of initiatives.
· Evaluate project outcomes and report progress to key stakeholders.
3. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
· Act as a visible QI advocate, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
· Develop networks and relationships to promote ownership of QI initiatives.
· Communicate project progress, outcomes, and best practices effectively.
4. Data and Performance Management
· Ensure validation of data informing QI projects and reports.
· Use data-driven insights to support decision-making and improvement strategies.
5. Professional Development
· Maintain professional competence and continuous development.
· Actively contribute to team learning and organisational development. People Management and Performance
· Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
· Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
· Ensure the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
· Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
· Identify and fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trust’s recruitment policy and process.
· Identify talent and support the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
· Review skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions are kept up to date.
· Ensure overall wellbeing of the team is maintained. Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent management experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2)
- Lean or Six Sigma or Yellow Belt level training
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Expertise in the use of IT e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and able to draw conclusions from complex data and present it clearly to a wide range of individuals and organisations
- Experience of working with stakeholders and securing their engagement
- Experience of report writing for a range of audiences
Desirable criteria
- Previous project governance experience
- Knowledge of change management methodology and the change process
- Experience of problem solving and supporting others to develop this skill
- Experience coaching individuals or teams
