EYFS Teaching Assistant

Marchant Recruitment
Richmond, Greater London

Primary School – Richmond, West London

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and professional Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant to join our nurturing and inclusive primary school in Richmond, West London. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to play a pivotal role in the education and development of children during the earliest years of their schooling.

Our school is proud to serve a diverse community and is committed to providing a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment where every child is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We believe that the Early Years are crucial for establishing the foundations for lifelong learning, and our EYFS provision reflects our commitment to high-quality, child-centred education.

Role Overview

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with class teachers and the Early Years team to support children in Nursery and Reception. You will assist in delivering a curriculum that is engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

You will support children’s learning across all areas of development, including communication and language, literacy, numeracy, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional development. The role requires a caring, patient, and observant practitioner who understands the importance of play-based learning and can respond to the individual needs and interests of each child.

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about early years education, enjoys working collaboratively, and is committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake a wide range of duties to support the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including:

  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering learning activities in line with the EYFS framework

  • Working with individual children and small groups to support learning and development

  • Supporting children’s communication and language development, including listening, speaking, and early literacy skills

  • Encouraging personal, social, and emotional development, including confidence, independence, cooperation, and self-regulation

  • Facilitating learning through structured activities and child-led play, indoors and outdoors

  • Supporting children’s physical development, including fine and gross motor skills

  • Observing, recording, and reporting children’s progress to the class teacher

  • Helping to create and maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating learning environment

  • Supporting children during daily routines, including arrivals, transitions, mealtimes, and toileting

  • Assisting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCo

  • Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to ensure children’s learning and wellbeing

  • Maintaining professional conduct and contributing positively to the ethos of the school

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be professional, approachable, and passionate about early years education. You should be patient, nurturing, and committed to helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach

  • A calm, positive, and nurturing attitude

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A relevant early years or childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong practical experience and a commitment to professional development.

Our School and Early Years Provision

Our school provides a supportive and collaborative working environment where staff are valued and encouraged to develop professionally. The Early Years provision is carefully structured to meet children’s developmental needs and provide engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences.

We work closely with families to ensure smooth transitions into Nursery and Reception and maintain regular communication regarding children’s progress and wellbeing. The Early Years team benefits from strong leadership, collaborative planning, and access to training and development opportunities.

  • A supportive and experienced Early Years team

  • Well-resourced classrooms and outdoor learning spaces

  • Opportunities for professional development and training

  • Clear guidance and support from senior leadership

  • Recognition of your contribution to children’s early learning and development
