Strategic Communications Lead, Climate
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Strategic Communications Lead, Climate.
The role will steer the development and implementation of HSBC’s climate communications strategy, with a primary focus on the transition to net zero. The role holder will be responsible for crafting and executing an integrated communications strategy that effectively articulates HSBC’s approach to net zero transition to a range of audiences, while managing risks.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you will:
•Develop and implement strategic communications approach, considering multiple stakeholders, that articulates HSBC’s role in the net zero transition.
•Ensure the communications strategy aligns with HSBC’s broader sustainability goals and effectively manages the Group’s reputation on a complex issue.
•Establish a consistent and appropriately calibrated runway of climate-related communications across owned and earned channels, collaborating closely with other Group External Communications teams, Communications, Business and Markets, Global Brand, and Group Public Affairs.
•Provide expert guidance on both proactive and reactive messaging around key climate issues, ensuring consistency and alignment with HSBC’s strategic objectives.
•Anticipate and effectively manage key risks and reactive issues, working with relevant other external-facing teams to respond effectively and seek to mitigate reputational risk to the bank.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
•Demonstrate a global outlook and a passion for addressing complex challenges, particularly in the realm of sustainability and climate change.
•Possess the ability to craft and execute strategic communications plans that position HSBC appropriately on climate-related topics.
•Exhibit strong judgement and stakeholder understanding in developing messaging that resonates with diverse audiences across different regions and contexts.
•Possess or have the ability to rapidly develop strong subject matter expertise in climate change and the net zero transition, particularly as it pertains to the financial sector.
•Collaborate with business leaders to align communications strategies with business objectives and sustainability targets.
