Modelling Actuary in City of London
Job description
Summary:
A well-established UK life insurance provider is seeking a Modelling Actuary to support the development, calibration, and testing of actuarial models that underpin strategic decision-making. This is a hybrid role based in Buckinghamshire and offers an exciting opportunity for a qualified actuary to work at the forefront of model innovation and enhancement within a collaborative and forward-looking actuarial team.
The successful candidate will contribute to end-to-end model development, delivering robust and efficient actuarial modelling solutions. Working independently and with actuarial leadership, the role involves interpreting model results, contributing to technical documentation, and identifying opportunities to improve modelling frameworks and processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified actuary with practical model development experience—especially in RAFM or Python—and a background in the UK life insurance industry.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design, development, calibration, and testing of actuarial models.
- Interpret, report, and present model outputs to internal stakeholders.
- Produce and maintain technical actuarial and modelling documentation.
- Identify and deliver complex actuarial analyses to support business objectives.
- Ensure all modelling activities align with internal policies, control frameworks, and actuarial standards.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve modelling processes and workflows.
- Stay up to date on emerging trends, technical advancements, and regulatory changes.
- Support compliance with regulatory conduct requirements, including FCA and PRA expectations.
- Undertake ad hoc tasks as needed to support the Actuarial Function.
Ideal Candidate:
- Qualified actuary (IFoA or equivalent) with experience in the UK life insurance sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in actuarial model development (RAFM and/or Python preferred).
- Strong understanding of actuarial principles and regulatory context, especially relating to internal modelling.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Highly organised with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Adaptable, pragmatic, and proactive in identifying and implementing solutions.
- Demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality output.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with actuarial leadership and cross-functional teams.
