Portals Platform Owner - Engine by Starling (Hiring Immediately)
At Engine by Starling , we are on a mission to find and work with leading banks all around the world who have the ambition to build rapid growth businesses, on our technology.
Engine is Starling's software-as-a-service (SaaS) business, the technology that was built to power Starling Bank, and two years ago we split out as a separate business.
Starling has seen exceptional growth and success, and a large part of that is down to the fact that we have built our own modern technology from the ground up. This SaaS technology platform is now available to banks and financial institutions all around the world, enabling them to benefit from the innovative digital features, and efficient back-office processes that has helped achieve Starling's success.
As a company, everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves to help deliver great outcomes for our clients. We are an engineering led company and we’re looking for someone who will be excited by the potential for Engine’s technology to transform banking in different markets around the world.
Hybrid Working
We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Engine - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person.
About the Role
As a Portals Platform Owner at Engine, you will collaborate closely with teams across Technology and work with the product engineering web teams as well as our client experience web team to ensure that our web portals meet the needs of clients and aligns with the company’s broader strategy and risk appetite. You will act as the voice of our clients across the portals department but also across the organisation.
You will also be well-connected with the broader Product practice. At Engine, we spend our time building products that we’re really proud of. We focus on the experience, often delivering things with real polish but sometimes making a fast strategic move. We think being good at product requires clear communication, a sense of focus, and to challenge the conventional ways of doing things. We’re open-minded when it comes to hiring, we care more about skills and attitude than specific experience or qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the web platform strategy: Work with web engineering teams and domain product owners to deliver high-impact outcomes that ensure strong product consistency across all portal features.
- Gather feedback and break down problems: Actively listen to teams for pain points and feedback, gather requirements, and break down complex problems into actionable projects across teams.
- Drive adoption and advocacy: Promote the platform’s capabilities, educate teams and stakeholders and ensure widespread adoption via documentation, training and internal marketing.
- Measure success: Define key success metrics (e.g., user discoverability)
- Ensure security and compliance: Partner with security and compliance teams to embed best practices and ensure regulatory requirements are met.
Requirements
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify and provide clarity on complex, architectural problems to a wide range of stakeholders, from junior engineers to executive leadership.
- Data-driven mindset with experience in making evidence-based product decisions.
- Experience in making evidence-based product decisions using both qualitative and quantitative data, specifically within a web development context.
- A proven ability to act as a voice for the user and influence teams and stakeholders without direct authority, particularly in engineering-led environments.
- You should be comfortable working directly with engineers, both internally and externally. You can speak their language and have a strong understanding of how they would build new features in our portals.
Nice to have
- Hands-on engineering experience or a technical background, particularly in web development.
- Experience in the FinTech or banking industry.
- Experience in taking a software from an internal tool to an external, revenue-generating product.
Interview process
Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:
- Stage 1 - 45 mins with someone from the tech team]]>
