Site Manager | Highly Regarded School | Hackney
CORE PURPOSE
We require a highly organized, proactive, and safety-conscious Site Manager to oversee the comprehensive facilities management, operational security, and physical maintenance of our school campus. Operating within an ambitious, inclusive secondary academy in the heart of East London, the successful candidate will take lead responsibility for statutory compliance, contractor management, health and safety execution, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM), ensuring an immaculate, secure, and inspiring learning environment for all pupils, staff, and visitors.
THE SCHOOL
Our academy operates as a proud, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to raising academic standards, celebrating diversity, and serving a vibrant inner-london borough. The campus features an architectural blend of historic structures and modern, high-spec learning facilities, including specialized science labs, creative arts studios, and extensive community sports provisions. Our leadership team prioritizes a clean, secure, and highly functional campus as a prerequisite for academic success, providing the site team with robust administrative backing, clear operational lines, and a supportive, collaborative professional culture.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Statutory Compliance & Health & Safety: Lead on all aspects of health and safety legislation, maintaining immaculate compliance logs for fire safety, legionella testing, asbestos monitoring, gas safety, and electrical testing (PAT) in strict accordance with HSE guidelines.
Planned Maintenance & Repairs (PPM): Develop, execute, and monitor a rigorous planned preventative maintenance schedule alongside managing reactive repairs, utilizing a hands-on approach to carry out minor fabric repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and redecoration tasks.
Contractor Procurement & Oversight: Source, brief, and supervise external contractors and specialists, ensuring all works are completed to a premium standard, represent rigorous value for money, and strictly adhere to safe working practices and school safeguarding protocols.
Campus Security & Asset Management: Take overall responsibility for the physical security of the school site, acting as the primary keyholder for opening and closing routines, managing advanced CCTV and access control systems, and responding to out-of-hours emergency alarm activations.
Lettings, Logistics & Cleanliness: Oversee the operational logistics for school events, parents' evenings, and community evening/weekend lettings. Manage the performance of the cleaning and caretaking team, ensuring the highest standards of presentation and hygiene are maintained across all internal blocks and external grounds.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: A strong background in facilities management, building estate control, or a skilled trade (such as carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work). Recognized qualifications in health and safety management (such as IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent facilities certifications) are highly desirable.
Operational Capability: Proven experience managing physical site operations, mechanical and electrical systems, and compliance frameworks within an educational, public sector, or high-volume commercial setting. Advanced digital literacy for utilizing computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) software is essential.
Resilient & Solutions-Driven Ethos: An unwavering commitment to operational excellence, demonstrating the exceptional organizational control, analytical problem-solving skills, and calm authority required to handle competing physical demands and emergency situations in a fast-paced urban school environment.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Inner-London Urban Regeneration & Sustainable Infrastructure: Based in the dynamic, trend-setting borough of Hackney, the school capitalizes on a world-class metropolitan identity defined by rapid architectural modernization, tech-sector expansion, and vibrant multicultural heritage. The campus operates within an urban landscape focused heavily on sustainable construction, energy efficiency initiatives, and green city planning, providing the Site Manager with a sophisticated environment to pioneer carbon-reduction strategies, smart-building systems management, and modern waste-reduction operations.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium London transport infrastructure, offering straightforward commuting links across East and North London. Public transit networks operate flawlessly, utilizing extensive Transport for London (TfL) bus networks alongside comprehensive London Overground routes, with nearby interchanges including Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, and Dalston Junction providing high-frequency, rapid rail transit connecting the school directly to Stratford, Highbury & Islington, Liverpool Street, and the wider metropolitan network.
