Location: Westminster, Central London

Salary: £32,500 – £36,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Term-time only + INSET days)

About the School

We are seeking to appoint a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Education Welfare Officer on behalf of a high-performing secondary academy in the borough of Westminster. The school places pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and attendance at the core of its ethos. Working as part of a strong safeguarding and pastoral support team, you will play a crucial role in removing barriers to education and ensuring all pupils maintain strong attendance and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze, and track whole-school attendance and punctuality data to identify patterns of persistent absence.

• Conduct home visits and family assessments to support vulnerable pupils and address underlying attendance issues.

• Lead trauma-informed interventions and establish early help plans for pupils and their families.

• Implement statutory procedures regarding Children Missing Education (CME), fixed penalty notices, and court proceedings in line with Local Authority guidelines.

• Work collaboratively with external multi-agency teams, social care, local authorities, and the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Requirements

• Proven experience working as an Education Welfare Officer, School Attendance Officer, or within a child protection / educational social care capacity.

• In-depth working knowledge of UK school attendance legislation, safeguarding procedures (KCSIE), and local authority legal frameworks.

• Proficiency with school management information systems (such as SIMS, Bromcom, or Arbor) for tracking and reporting attendance data.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and handle challenging conversations with families in a tactful, professional manner.

• An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
