Location: Hillingdon, London
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
School Information
An Outstanding secondary school in Hillingdon is looking to recruit a practical and enthusiastic Design and Technology Technician to support its creative and technical departments. The school encourages pupils to develop problem-solving skills, practical confidence and creativity through a curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning.
The successful candidate will work alongside Design and Technology teachers to ensure that workshops, classrooms and specialist equipment are prepared for lessons. The school is looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining safe, well-organised working environments and enjoys helping students develop practical skills.
The Role
The Design and Technology Technician will provide technical support across the department, helping teachers prepare materials, organise equipment and deliver practical lessons effectively.
Responsibilities will include preparing tools, materials and resources for classroom activities, ensuring that equipment is available when required and assisting with the organisation of workshop spaces. The postholder will help maintain machinery and tools, carry out routine checks and report any faults or maintenance requirements.
The role may cover a range of practical subjects, including resistant materials, product design, graphics and other areas offered by the department. The successful applicant will assist with preparing demonstration materials, cutting and organising suitable resources, and ensuring that pupils have access to the equipment required for their projects.
Health and safety will be a key responsibility. The technician will help maintain safe working practices, ensure that tools and machinery are stored correctly and follow the school's procedures for managing materials and workshop equipment. They will also help maintain inventories, monitor stock levels and arrange replenishment when necessary.
The postholder will support teachers with practical demonstrations and may provide basic technical guidance to pupils under the direction of teaching staff. They will also assist with keeping work areas tidy, organising completed projects and preparing resources for examinations or displays.
Requirements
Applicants should have practical experience in Design and Technology, workshop support, product design or a related technical environment. A relevant qualification would be beneficial, although candidates with suitable hands-on experience are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate must demonstrate good organisational skills, attention to detail and a responsible approach to health and safety. Familiarity with workshop machinery, tools and practical materials would be advantageous.
Candidates should be comfortable working alongside teachers and pupils, following instructions and managing preparation tasks to tight deadlines.
What the School Offers
The school offers a varied technical role within a well-established department, providing opportunities to support creative learning and develop practical expertise. The successful applicant will contribute to lessons that help pupils build confidence, technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
Application
