Business Analyst

MI5
London

Job Description

Job description
Flexible Working: We support a range of working patterns, full-time, part-time (minimum of 3
working days), compressed hours and job shares. Due to the nature of the role homeworking
or remote working will not be possible.

\n

About us

\n

MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to
harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing,
and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ
to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and
guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves
safe. A role in MI5 means you'll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and
encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.

\n

The role

\n

Our business analyst roles are aligned and assessed against the Government Digital and
Data Profession Capability framework (DDPCF), formerly known as Digital, Data and
Technology (DDaT) Profession Capability Framework.

\n

You will work in areas across MI5 including Technical, Corporate and Operational delivery
areas, applying structured business analysis approaches to support our key transformational
challenges in areas such as Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber to help our
organisation continue to operate in a digital age.

\n

You will analyse data and information relating to business goals, objectives, functions and
processes. You will define requirements to improve processes, systems and services. You
will conduct options analysis, assess feasibility and operational impact, quantify potential

\n

business benefits and contribute to business case development. You will ensure solutions
align with the vision, objectives, business and user needs and provide the expected benefits
and outcomes. You’ll work to enable all or part of the business to make informed, strategic
and tactical decisions.

About You

\n

You’ll already have some training in either business analysis or change management. You
might currently be working towards one of the recognised BA certifications such as the
British Computer Society (BCS) or International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
qualifications.

\n

As someone with experience applying structured methodologies to intricate business
problems, you’ll be confident identifying the right techniques to deliver practical solutions.
You’ll also have experience using frameworks and tools to develop business models of
varying complexity across multiple teams. You’ll know how to select the correct tools and
methods for the environment and will provide results that benefit both the business and
users.

\n

And you’ll always be looking improve, whether you’re finding new business opportunities or
seeking ways to develop your own skills and knowledge. You’ll have a background in leading
the analysis, design and implementation of business changes and evaluating their
effectiveness. From mapping and documenting new processes to demonstrating as-is and
to-be states, you’ll strive to add value to everything you do.

\n

Importantly, you’ll build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external
stakeholders. You’ll take time to understand, document and prioritise their requirements, and
communicate solutions clearly to your various audiences – ensuring people are kept in the
loop throughout.

\n

Training and development

\n

We have a supportive and active business analyst community who are committed to
developing your skills. We recognise this will look different for everyone so there will be lots
of tailored training, coaching, and mentoring.

\n

We will cover the cost of professional memberships to either the BCS (British Computer
Society) or the IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) and you may have
opportunities to network with other government departments.

\n

As you develop, grow, and maintain your technical skills, you’ll progress through the
Government Digital and Data Profession Capability framework. You’ll need to regularly
demonstrate and accredit your skills based on the framework.

therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups
that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority
background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
