This position is critical in safeguarding the organization’s financial integrity, ensuring compliance with evolving tax legislation, and minimizing exposure to penalties and interest. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned tax professional with a deep understanding of corporate taxation, audit defense strategies, and negotiation dynamics. You will lead the preparation and presentation of technical arguments, coordinate cross-functional teams, and represent the organization in high-stakes discussions with tax authorities. This role demands a strategic mindset, exceptional analytical abilities, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation. As a key contributor to the firm’s tax governance framework, you will ensure that dispute outcomes align with business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, ethics, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of tax assessments, appeals, and audit findings to identify strengths, weaknesses and strategic opportunities.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including position papers, legal arguments and supporting evidence for dispute resolution.
  • Represent the organization in negotiations, hearings, and settlement discussions with tax authorities, utilizing strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including finance, legal and compliance teams to ensure alignment on dispute strategy and risk posture.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and case law to anticipate potential disputes and proactively advise on mitigation measures.
  • Utilize SAP NetWeaver AS to manage tax data, track dispute timelines and ensure accurate reporting and audit readiness.
  • Train and mentor junior tax professionals on dispute resolution techniques, documentation standards and compliance protocols.
  • Maintain detailed records of all dispute activities, outcomes and lessons learned to support continuous improvement and knowledge retention.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, data privacy regulations and corporate governance standards throughout all dispute processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in tax advisory, tax dispute resolution or corporate tax compliance.
  • Proven track record in managing high-value tax disputes with HMRC or equivalent international tax authorities.
  • Expertise in UK corporate taxation, including corporation tax, transfer pricing, VAT and indirect taxes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong command of Microsoft Excel for complex financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP NetWeaver AS for tax data integration, reporting and workflow management.
  • Exceptional negotiation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written communication abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex cases under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of tax audit defense strategies, appeal processes and litigation support frameworks.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical tax arguments to senior management and external parties.
